do you think he might be used effectively against light tanks? if they do meet on the battlefield (not alltogether unlikely) when should i use the guantlet and when should i use the melta bombs? a glancing hit on a 6 aint to bad when you could potentially have 10 attacks... (against any av...against the monolith?).
also, im using an elite inq with tp to call down support (and allow me to take assassins) i want him to be a (relatively) hard point and an effective support unit. he will most likely be marching with storm troopers w/ close range weapons (i dont use transports because of fluff and ( lack of) availability).
power/artificer armour (i like the idea of someday being able to use a rhino, or advance after combat with gk)
some sort of invulnerable save (field/iotj/ss/ do we get combat shields now?)
power weapon/thunder hammer (or dh)
and the real question combi melta, plasma pistol, or psycannon
im leaning twords the A. armour, RF, power weapon, plama pistol,
because he wont be standing still and the extra attack is nice with a high s pistol.
he is a bit pricy, but i think its necessary because ive been having problems with my dsing units scattering out of template/next turn assault range
is the t hammer worth it for this kind of guy?
As for the Eversor, depends on whether the tanks has moved and if so, how far.
If it hasn't moved, auto hit then definitely use the Melta bombs. Under 6 go for melta again, 1/2 chance of hitting but penetrating is always better than a glance. If its over 6, use your normal attacks, hitting on 6 isn't reliable enough with 1 attack.

When I say jump you don't ask me 'How high?' maggot! You jump!
Well, couple of things to think about:also, im using an elite inq...
-First, if he's marching with IST, he won't get to use any of his awesome armor or invulnerable saves until he's all alone (or in CC). And frankly, if a unit of IST with one uber-tooled model was marching towards me, I'd be sure to try and put some hurt on it. I think that you should stick with one type of protection, and go all the way. Buy him either Termie armor, Artificer armor, or an Icon. Don't try and cover all bases, it just becomes way too expensive. If he's going to be in a unit, he's safe from most shooting attacks, so if you're taking better armor just to negate enemy AP, don't bother. Myself, I'd just give him the Icon. If he failed to perform well, maybe upgrading him to power armor, but no farther. Enough weapons ignore armor saves in CC that I don't rely on it anymore for my characters.
-Second, plasma weapons. You don't want a model that you've invested so many points in blowing himself up (potentially removing the TP Homer before it's used as well). And since pistols all have the same +1A in combat, then just give him a bolt pistol, imo. Psycannon is too expensive, and won't give you extra attacks. Combi-melta is a great gun, but again, no +1A, and it sounds like you'd prefer the combat ability.
-Third, strength. One of the biggest downers of Inquisitors, they're always going to be S3. A power weapon is near-pointless on them, unless you only ever fight against T3 armies. I suggest taking either a pair of lightning claws (to reroll wounds, effectively negating the S3), a fist/hammer weapon (S6 is definitely better, but still a waste in an army with GK), or a force weapon (expensive, and not useful in combat against rank & file troops). Personally, I like the lightning claw pair for a combat-oriented Inquisitor. Mastercraft it, and you can now reroll hit AND wound, which definitely makes him a pain in the enemy's behind in combat. It also nets you the same +1A as that of a pistol - you could take Scourging if you feel that he still needs a shooting attack, but I wouldn't bother with it.
I want to point out that the best solution to getting TP Homers into your IST squads are IST Vets. Give them similar upgrades like above - they can't be picked out in CC like an Inquisitor can be, so they're MUCH safer (and you can refrain from going crazy with protections). I don't think Assassins are worth their points, so this is what I always do instead of buying Inquisitors ^_^The S of the pistol doesn't matter for the extra attack - the attack is still taken with the main combat weapon.the extra attack is nice with a high s pistolNope.do we get combat shields now?
Errrrr Megalomaniac I was pretty much under the impression that a "Pair" of Lightning Claws, meant you could'nt take a pistol at all. Seeing as they take up both hands.
Maybe its just me.

No you can take another weapon, since a pair of lightning claws is a 2-handed weapon.

no, i dont think you can have anything but a pair of lc (counts as 2 i.e. both choices).
megalo, thanks for the resaponse and all the advice. i was considering those weaponchoices b/ci have a model already equiped with the hammer bit from corteaz and all ineeded to do was add a gun (i kindalike the combi melta option despite the 1 less attack b/c he will be with (or at least along side) a melta squad most likely) and the pistol would be nice for the extra attacK, the high ap when i cant make the charge and light anti tank (which we are always lacking). though these options are easy enough, you advic4e definatly makes sense (esp the t hammer, for that price i could buy another termi and swap to get one for free...).
i guess ill redo the conversion, i do have the bits to make some kickass lcs....
i think ill take your advice and put the homer on the vet sarge i already use in the squad, and ill run the inq up along side to give close units another target and take advantage of his ic status.
I apologize if I wasn't clear in my above post: When I said "It also nets you the same +1A as that of a pistol", I was referring to how a pair of LC's gives him the +1A as if he were holding a pistol, not that he was holding a pistol.Errrrr Megalomaniac I was pretty much under the impression that a "Pair" of Lightning Claws, meant you could'nt take a pistol at all. Seeing as they take up both hands.
megalo- your inq set up(or closetoit) was the only modelinmy force that wasnt a complete failure (took out 3 chosen termis of nurgle, death guard and called down the dsing gm on q- who got smoked outright).
