Hi I am a newbie to SM but not to the game and figured I`d start a marine chapter as my next army. I just bought the codex and have a question....
If I use the traits does that mean I have created a new chapter, or can I use it to diversifiy an existing chapter? (Eg. If I give a marine chapter traits are they still Ultra Marines?)
I know that the question itself seems to make little difference (paint `em different and give them a cool name , but I was wondering wether traits will remove my ability to take special characters/honour guard?
On a side note, will there be a space marine pinned tactica? I was thinking of taking another chapter but would rather find out before buying all the codices to find out their strengths/weaknesses
Thanks in advance.
If you want to use an already existing chapter, then you'll have to use them the way they appear in the codex. If it deviates from the codex, it's not an Ultramarine.
Yea I understand you want to use Ultramarines specific units while using traits, unfortunitly you cannot do this. You either have to go for the trait system (own chapter or pre-set chapter) or a codex chapter such as Ultramarines.

If you read the fluff, you will find out that the Ultramarines primarch, Rouboute Guilliman, wrote the Codex Astartes. Obviously the Ultramarines have an almost religious following of the Codex and thus have no traits.
