recently I was playing a Combat patrol against Tau (N) and I lost miserably something along the lines of 3 fire wariors dead. can you guys give me a tip on how to best beat this guy?
VSS-plasma pistol, ccw
10 sisters, 1 with storm bolter
5 Storm Troopers, 1 with plasma, 1 with melta
Seraphim VSS, MC bolt pistol, power sword
5 seraphim, 2 with TL hand flamers
2 big suits of some sort, they had some type of melta based weapon
2 squads of fire wariors
The main problem with your setup is you need to get within 12' to be effective (meltagun & pistols). Don't use melta weapons against tau. It's too short ranged and simply overkill when it comes to killing tau.
Boltguns and stormbolters go a long way to balancing out the tau's range advantage. A retributor squad of heavy bolters will mow down tau if boltguns don't reach far enough. If you're going to use Seraphim you'll need more as 5 just die from 1/2 a tau army shooting at them.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
As the man said: Heavy Bolters.
And if your going to use seraphim then you have to hug cover until they can move within range of a unit. If you can get them into combat the seraphim should chew through his troops choice in hand to hand.
Dont be too disheartened as I have found Tau can be a particualarly effective force when playing low points games (ive yet to see them be so effective at 1500+ points) and quite hard to deal with.
