I have been thinking about how huge space marine are with sales booming with the new realeses and all.
and i know its very possible to make a 10th company space marine army with the fact that you can have scouts and tanks and there you have it a 10th company.
so this got me thinking why cant we make a 1st/ veteran company (well apart from those crazy deathwing fellas)
but i would really like to make a veteran company for kicks sorta thing, where you can have terminators as troop choices and stuff.
i dont want death winf because there not what i would call...fun, because its just land raiders and terminators, not veterans.
so what do you think of the idea of being able to have a veteran company?
although its exspensive but what do you think?
P.S. Blood angels rule, the anger lets us ignore wounds ...hehehe
The problem I can see with this is that there is no "official" list. So if you intend to go to tournaments it won't work. in addition some opponents might have problems with it.
But with the traits system you can pretty much give your entire SM army veteran skills. So if you chose these carefully then you can make a legal Sm army with veteran skills and then call it the "[.... (insert cool sounding chapter name here)] First Company".
Shut up and play.
people have had this idea before. I think its a very characterful idea, however its not easy on the pocket and requires alot of painting and converting to get it looking good.
i'm doing something similar, except my force will be a veteran force in the sense that they have been embroiled in a campaigns for years...but what you suggesting goes way beyond that
what i'm getting at is, if your opponents have a problem with you using your vets. in normal games as you suggest, you could just use them as very experienced tactical marines and then, when you have permission, use the army as you wish to use them.
i still say terminators should be elites, and maybe add them in as heavy support aswell, and then have veterans as troops. Fast attack poses a problem, but you could make a special veteran company that are automatically mounted in rhinos or something (like a dark eldar raider squad)...or use the blood angels idea of a veteran assault squad.
hope you go through with this idea, and get pictures up heh
Never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes...by that time they'll be a mile away, and have no shoes
It can work, but doctrinally, the 1st Company very rarely would fight together as a company. They are generally piece-mealed out to the other companies as attachments.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
A 1st company army with the new codex is easy, take the advantages 'Heed the wisdom of the ancients' and for example 'Trust your battle-brothers' that allows you to upgrade your tacticals.
Use dreadnoughts as heavy support, veterans and terminators as elites and take the maximum amount, two upgraded tactical squads as troops and call them veterans, and terminator HQ's with command squads.
