After much debate I have decided to post. I did a search on this chapter to find all the previous posts about the Imperial Fists in this forum, and did not find what I am looking for. So. . . . . . . .

I think I am slowly going to start collecting a SM force and I want to go with the Imperial Fists as my chapter. Now I know I need the new codex and and Index Astartes for the rules and back ground info about this chapter, but I was wondering what part of the army should I start with? (Termies and Lysander?)

Also I know that the Imperial Fists are siege masters and everyone says that they are shooty based but I have also found posts saying that they fight very much like Ultramarines, very well rounded (that is what appeals me about them) which is true? I currently play IG and Necrons so I want something either well-rounded or CC based not shooty like I currently have.

Any thoughts would be helpful!! Thanks!!!

P.S. My little bro plays nids so would the new starter set be a good start?

CC wouldn't be good against 'Nids. Just to let you know.

Lysander has to be in an army 1500 pts or more, I think. All the special characters are like that. They're really good, though. I don't know much about Imp Fists, I play Ultramarines.

BTW, good luck painting the yellow! I hear yellow is a pain to paint!

yellow is abosolutley horrednous to paint you'l need about three base coats to get it right (try going up through the browns that should work)

also after Guilliman saved Dorns butt against the Iron warriros, Dorn was stupendously grateful and adopted the codex astartes following it to the letter becoming yellow smurfs basically. Yet before that they were seige specialists same as the Iron warriors

Just have to point out that in the new codex they have Chapter of Legend
Which in there are the rules you must use for That chapter, though useing
the normal codex is also acceptable. ^_^

As the Imperial Fist are if my memory serves me right, a Seige Chapter.
Even though the codex says otherwise if I would make Imperial Fists
    they would have the traits:
    Suggestion
Ad; Cleanse and Purify(getting more meltguns for blowing up bunkers)
Suffer not the Works of the Heretic
Maj. Drawback: Eye to an Eye

Thanks for the responses but my questions have not really been answered. I want to know what to start collecting first and if this is a good "balanced" army.

Start with a basic HQ(Captian or Chaplin) and a couple of Tac squads. You will always be able to use these in your army.

what about the mega battle force it seems the units in there would fit an Imperial Fist army (at least the start of one).

    15 Marines
    5 Assault Marines
    1 Dread
    1 Rhino
    1 Pred

    Any thoughts?

also after Guilliman saved Dorns butt against the Iron warriros, Dorn was stupendously grateful and adopted the codex astartes following it to the letter becoming yellow smurfs basically. Yet before that they were seige specialists same as the Iron warriors
Actually Perturabo and Dorn always had a rivalry between each other. They both thought they were the better seige masters so Perturabo put it to the test. He found a planet and heavily fortified it and said to dorn, "Come and get it." So dorn and the imp. fists stormed the planet and basically annhilated the Iron Warriors. Guilliman didnt help them at all. Also when the codex astartes was created by Guilliman, Dorn hated it. He believed in legions. He and a couple of other chapters also believed that the codex was wrong. The space marines were then split into two groups, the ones who believed in the codex and the ones who didnt. Dorn and the other opposing chapters so strongly hated the codex that a civil war ALMOST broke out. Guilliman finally convinced Dorn and the other chapters to follow the codex. Dorn agreed to split his giant imp. fist legion into the Imperial Fists, the Crimson Fists, and the Black Templars.

To paint my imp. fists, i undercoat them with white, then paint all the pieces like the gun, the metal parts and the leg spaces black. Then I paint the white with yellow (one coat will be fine), then orange ink the yellow (Orange ink is now discontinued but im sure u can find an off brand of orange ink), then re-paint the spots that u didnt want inked with white and then paint the white with yellow.

You should start with a Master and 3-4 tactical squads with heavy bolters and plasma guns. Dont bother with lascannons in the tactical squads. For eilites, i would go for the termies with 2 assault cannons (rending assault cannons...drools), for heavy support, i always used a 10 man dev squad with 4 missile launchers and i also use a 5 man dev squad with a lascannon and the purge not the unclean skill (is that the skill im thinkin of?) Try to stock up on bolter type weapons. Dreadnoughts are also always a favorite. Hope this helps you fellow Imperial Fist player. Dont be discouraged about the yellow paint jobs. U will get the hang of it.
