I've been watching one fellow that plays in the store in my hometown and I've been trying to figure out how to do something against him, so I turn to you to see what you guys can pull up.
He has an army with a large number of Sentinels fitted with Hunter Killer Missiles and Solar Macharius, due to Solar's ability to go first he fires off HK's at every target he possible can, now he might only take down one or two things but it is rather troubling as he can pull this off every time with Solar.
Any ideas to at least reduce the damage something like that could do would be appreciated.
to minimize damage, set up everything behind cover. You know it is impossible to go first, so why put anything in line of sight? place your juiciest targets behind cover (vehicles namely, or MC's, big beasties depending on your army). the HK missles have BS3, so you shouldnt worry about it...if he brings 10 along, that is 100 points minimum(if my memory serves me correctly...I dont remember points exactly)...5 will hit, leaving 5 dead troops...even if you kill 5 SM, you wont make the points back. HK missles are only good against knocking out vehicles and MC's...if you hide those targets, then it is a waste for him.
Kind of guessed I could just throw stuff behind cover, I'm planning on putting together a 'human wave' army and those HK missiles can't do zippidy to 200 some Imperial Guardsman, although it is annoying as the board they use is absolutely tiny and has next to no cover, although should expect that since the local Dark Eldar player made the thing and we all know he made the board to suit his particular army, the dumb board is like 2 x 2 so in about one turn he's into close combat. I'm going to throw together a modular 4 x 4 board or something bigger, because it's kind of annoying for everyone to play on this shrimpy board, especially the Tau player.
Is Solar still legal? I would like to read his stats but he isnt in the current IG codex and have a feeling he was "before my time". Where could I find him?

How do you even play on a 2x2 board? A lot of missions mandate 18" between deployment zones, so unless you have a 3" deployment zone, I don't see how it works.

Yeah, it was thrown together a long time ago and it's kind of strange, hence why I'm assembling a 4 x 4 or bigger board, maybe 4 x 6 or something.
But at least the one guys army won't do much against the 'human wave' army I'm planning to assemble. Might only have a Sentinel or something and otherwise rely on troops and such, three full size Guardsman Platoons and maybe a Conscript Platoon to throw at their army nasty CC guys and tie them up. That and the HK Missile army uses a lot of Sentinels to pull it off and reduces the amount of troops he has, and it's not like Sentinels are hard to destroy or anything, catch them with a multi-laser and they'd go up in a fireball.
It still kind of bugs me that Solar Macharius is still usable, I could see Nork Dedog and such and some of the other special characters from a while back because they're not exactly famous enough and some never had a exact date set to their exsistence, but Solar Macharius died some ten thousand years prior to the current day, of course you can rationalise that some of the battles took place in the past but when he's fighting Tau it gets a little weird.
