Grand Master. Hands down.
The Grand Master has skill in close combat, unlike the inquisitor. To get an inquisitor with the same equipmet, even a little worse, you would have to spend 70 pts on warger, and you still end up FAR short in the terms of firepower, not to mention being LIGHTYEARS behind in close combat. An inquisitor with a weapon that doubles his strength has equal strength to the Grand Master's normal strength, not to mention that the grandmaster hits at initiative five witha weapon that has a VERY high chance of killing them outright.
Now, there are Four basic types of Grand Masters, three at around 200 pts.
First, the Standard one. no extra Equipment
Second, Shooty/Close Combat blend: Psycannon, optional Icon
Third, Close Combat Anti-Tank: Icon, Chainfist
Fourth, Daemon/MC killer: Daemonhammer. Icon, optional Incense.
Addendium:USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION Now, I understand that you are a noob, but look befor you type.
Where's your Baritone Saxophone?
Grand Master, of course. There's a reason he costs more than three times as much as the Inquisitor Lord.
Model to model yes the answer is clear. But the Inquisitor Lord is not intended to be used solo (really is 4 models in one).
First off, he must take three henchmen with him so:
Even with IC rules he could have 3 more wounds if he took acolytes, and not get auto-killed.
Could have three cc warriors far exceeding the GMs abilites in cc
Three gun warriors for firepower, etc. etc. etc.
So I would say the Inquisitor Lord is a better model. But in the end wil cost you more. I've had my GM get dropped easily and if it were a Inquisitor Lord he would have lasted longer. Never underestimate the power of acolylites. And really the great initiative and ws skill of a GM is nothing compared to the eldar opponents I face. I might as well be initiative 1 with a hammer so wounds is a big deal.
As for a squad punch, there is no question a GM has more here. Imagine if you have 2 LRs, one with 400pts of termies and GM fun, the other with an Inq Lord and Henchmen, again about 400pts worth. The doors drop and the Inq Lord is really on his own. The henchmen don't really offer much, unless you do three cc warriors. The GM and termies 2" within the btb character can slaughter, all equally well. Also, suvivability in shooting, the termies of course out last the poor henchmen saves.
better for what?
