as topic says i'm looking at making a hcoupla hq units for my guardy army, and i was wondering what i can do, can i convert a space marine and stuff like that. what sort of stats can i put on them etc. if you guys need more specifics, please ask and i'll detail some more.
as such i have not a lot of stuff
current army list =
1 mortar squad
2 cadian snipers
1 stormtrooper sarge
1 platoon of guardies.
looking at creating my own hero with a retinue etc. so i was wondering what rules are where etc. cheers guys
There aren't any "Make Your Own Character" rules out there, and even if there were, they wouldn't be tourney legal. What that means is the character you make up will be a house rule only playable with people who let you.
If you want a character who is legit, try taking a Grey Knights/Witch Hunters detachment in your army- or just an Inquisitor. Inquisitors should make for excellent characters in a guard army.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, even if it's wrong.
also if you havent already noticed you need a command platoon in your army as it is a 1 choice.

OK as people have said, there are various options, but for option 1, buy a command section, use the codex to sort out a heroic senior officer, or if you want to save a couple of points, a junior officer with honorifica imperialis, then write some story/background
Everything you have been told is a lie!
thanks guys, what i'm ow looking at doing is buying a bunch of models from diff races, carving it up and calling it an inquisitor and deck it out frm the armory, thats fine right? like a witchhunter pistol space marine gauntlets, and chest armour, and like guardy legs or something like that?
And everyone elses recommendation is that i get a hq squad. i believe that was on the cards anyway, i'm looking at a ranged army, but i reckons i need a fair bit more killing power. whatever guardies can take it have carprace and the sentinel has an autocannon and twinlinked bolters.
Lookng at getting another mortar squad, and some more standard guardies, however i played a mock battle with no hq units with someorks the other day, and found that the orks while being torn apart from the basilisk etc, his orks just took me apart once he made close combat. the mad dok giving fighting juice, anyway i can beef up the guardies h2h?
Well unfortunatley Guardsmen are the worst race for H2H next to the tau, so no the only use for guardsmen are maybe conscripts: cheap and can delay assault on more pricey units.
If your going to be using an Inquisitor you could consider using assassins, daemonhosts (random but hilarious) other options for H2H could include the almighty Grey Knight Grand Master and his GK Termie retinue, or you could just go for Ogryns or rough riders these all depend on your style of play and tactics.
thanks heaps for that. will definitely look into it, also thinkin abou those elysian drop troops they look absolutely awesome.
