I'm starting my 3rd guard army, I got light Infantry and grenaders. I'm going to start Drop troops. But don't know what to do with them. I'm thinking o assault weapons in the dropping squads, but really don't know. Here are the doctrines I'm thinking of using:
Special Weapon Squads
Close order drill
any help is welcome.

For Drop trooping Guard armys, I would recommend the Elysan ( sp? ) drop troops out of Chapter Approved 2003, if you can use this. They have two or three special rules that make them VERY worth While IMO.
They can come in on the first turn.
They can use Storm Troopers as troop choices. For Heavy Support they can use Storm Troopers with 3 Special W.
Best of all....... They can re-roll there Deep Strike Rolls!!!
Because of the various issues with old chapter approved and the new codex, I am unsure if they are legal?!
Without this, I like the Harakoni Warhawks Doctorine choices in the IG Codex for a good selction of Doctorines choices for a DS Guard Army.

Is hardened fighters worth it, does it actually make enough of a difference to justify the points?
How about carapace armour, is it worth the points? (not to mention the conversion work).
An for drop sentinels, how should I arm them? I was thinking of 3 squadrons of 2 sentinels each, two squadrons with autocannons and the last one with heavy flamers.
