Hey guys i am stating a space marine army and i dunno wat chapter, i plan to allie with grey knights.
the fact that you posted this four days ago and have only just recieved a response should strike you as how strange and frankly daft a post this was,
however i feel kinda sorry you 7986 members and only person replied and that was sarcasm lol
space marines, im not gonna bother going into the various chapters but in order to choose one it has to have two things
one a playing style you admire if you like close combat go BA or SW, if its shooting UM or DA is good for you
also the colour scheme has to suit you as well .
However if you decide that you want close combat but dont want to paint all that red or grey, then make your own chapter up, its not hard, i did it, give them a name a colour scheme and then the SM traits to make to your liking.
and stop dithering go out and do them.
oh and one more thing
TAU ARE WAY BETTER THAN SPACE MARINES BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA
(sorry little bit of immaturity go in there)
WELL SAID, NO MORE SQUATS THEY ARE DEAD GET OVER ITOriginally Posted by artificer
don't let the forces of evil corrupt your mind brother.
the space marines are one of the most varied and flavored group of armies in 40k. Each chapter has its own style and fluff.
first you can do all grey knights, they are a chapter in and of themselves. You can also make up your own chapter (fluff and all) using the space marine codex variations. As for the more deviant chapters...
Blood Angels- the boys in red are great at close combat and have excellent fluff. No one should ever discount a bunch of guys with furious charge.
Space Wolves- the boys in blue (well light blue anyway) are a lot of fun because of their odd character rules. You will have a lot more independent characters in a space wolf list. However, you won't be able to take any GK HQ's with them. They excel in most forms of combat and do well on the charge or receiving it. That, and they can field a leman russ battle tank.
Dark Angels- lots of lore and lots of plasma weapons. They can also field all mobile and all terminator forces. They also wear skirts (j/k a wolf has to poke at that)
Black Templar- another popular army designed for close range combat. They tend to run towards the enemy and have the Emperor's Champion, who i might add is a great character.
Ultramarines- the original boys in blue. They are the standard marine template and do their job well. They got a great deal of new stuff in the codex so be sure to read up on that.
Raven Guard- a codex variation chapter, they have a great HQ and are meant to field lots of jet pack troops.
White Scars- another codex variation chapter, they field plenty of bikes and meant to be high mobility troops. However, they suffer from the transport rules under flesh over steel.
Salamanders- codex variation, tend towards flamers and melta weapons.
Iron Hands- codex variation, they field alot of bionics (which in the new codex is alot better) and can take a techmarine as a HQ.
Imperial Fist- the boys in yellow. Their very close to space marines but have a awesome HQ ability to deepstrike loads of terminators.
Blood Raven- popular because of the Dawn of War game. They are designed to be a foot slogging force that can infiltrate. Fluff wise they have a high concentration of psykers.
Well thats most of the named ones. As stated above you can always make your own using the codex. With the expensive grey knights you might want to shy away from anything that will add to the cost of the standard marine. Trust your battle brother is great, but i'll always recommend that. The best thing to do might be to gather up about 20 marines and do a few playtests before you paint them or add wargear. Experiment with what best serves your force. Also, if your taking the GK, give every basic marine Vet. Sgt a teleport homer, so you can bring those termies in right where you need them.
Go imperial fists. Then take Lysander. In a 2000 point game, you could bring say, 20 SM terminators, and another 5 GKT that all show up in the same round.
Where's your Baritone Saxophone?

You should probly check out the dex and choose one u like...or go Ultramarines!!!!
The list up a little more is pretty accurate and shows all the "official" chapters available.
good luck...and go Space Marines..
Hope Is The First Step On The Road To Dissapointment.
A note on Dark Angels, I'd stay away from them if you plan on fielding Grey Knights. Dark Angels can not have allies, that includes any Inquisitorial agents, so in short, you can't use them. As far as the chapters we have left,it al depends on your style. GW's site has some basic info on each of the chapters, I'd suggest checking there.Once you've got it narrowed down a bit come back and we can help you decide based on what your like.
Really? Because in the DH codex it specifically mentions what happens if you put an Inquisitor in the DA force.
Hive Fleet Furi Kuri 32/21/4
Tomb Kings: 8/5/2
Im in ur Halo, killin ur covernantz
im sorry to try and influence you but its my job to teach you young scouts a thing or two. listen, go for whichever chapter you like the most. DA are a good one because, although they can't have allies, they can rain plasma death on the enemy. UM are really good with the new codex. i'd have to say that the best chapters are the ones you make on your own. play with a vanilla army and figure out what works best, then make your own chapter to adapt. just make a cool name, mines the Harbringers of Doom.
I shall destroy all who stand in my way. The Emperor shall be reborn in me, the Primarchs shall be remade in me. I shall cast down the Dark Gods, the Star Gods shall be consumed just as they consumed their brothers. Those who fell shall be redeemed, those who remained pure shall be rewarded. The Imperium shall regain its power and the Dark Age of Technology will seem like nothing. For I am the Numen and I am coming
