So I'm looking through the new Space Marine Codex, and decided maybe I should consider another fast attack option. I've always been partial to bikes, I have 6 space marine bikes, so i figure leaves me with Landspeeder or Attack bikes..... i want to try to stay away from Assault troopers just for something a little different.
Here's my thoughts
1. The points seem identical, i'm trying to just stay with Heavy bolters or Meltaguns, trying to stay away from the Typhoon or Tornado (even though Assault cannons seem better now)
2. Is it better to have the Armor (10) or Armor save and toughness, which if moving 24 inches is an invul (turbo boost)
3. Attack bikes could either be a squad to themselves, or attach to my pre existing bike squads, but Landspeeders could go in squads of 3, or split depending on Fast Attack slot availability.
As for my usually army composition, I keep a mostly balanced army... i do use a decent amount of terminators, but purposely reduce the amount of heavy support (I.E. devastators, Vindicators) I figure wiht more fast attack, i'll have a decent first wave, or nice flanking attack.
Let me know what you think, and also what you use so i can gain more insight into marines! Thanks ahead of time.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
I play Ravenwing so in my opinion it pays to take a combination of both.
I personaly use Landspeeders for fluff reasons, but they're not too much different then the attack bikes. I'd guess it would depend on what you're going up against, they're really so simular it all comes down to a matter of taste IMO.
Remember also, that if it comes right down to it, Attack bikes may engage in close combat with 1 attack for the rider, 1 for the gunner, so a squad of 3 will be able to dish out 6 melee attacks, or 9 on the charge!
I would say LS but if you want surviviblity then attack bikes are your choice. LS are more risk and reward type of a unit.

Do you prefer saves or armour value is the question you have to ask

The Bikes are almost definitely harder to kill than the landspeeder, but the landspeeder has the added advantage of having an assault cannon. In my mind, that makes it the correct choice. 50 points for a two wound bike with a multimelta is nice, but 80 points for a fast skimmer with a heavy bolter and an assault cannon, in my mind, is gold.
I use my Landspeeders in a primarily "Anti-Tank"/"Anti-Personel" mode, and am planning on taking two large squads of assault marines (one of which will be converted from Death Company, from an old army). In my opinion, the bikes are not worth their points, but definitely going to be on my next force organization chart when i get over 5000 points...

Well your forgetting a couple of things.
First of attack bikes must be fielded in a minimum of 2 for a squad. So if you want them as a fast attack choice its going to cost you a minimum of 100 points.
Secondlly, the "defense" an attack bike has is its 5 toughness and 2 wounds. Unfortunatelly this doesnt keep it from being autokilled by strength 8 weapons.
Strength 3 weapons can wound a bike, but not a speeder.
Oh and Bean said a bike with multi-melta is 50 points. You are wrong, you are also not alloud to post point costs.
So, if you are going to add an attack bike to a bike squadron then fgo for it (Y)
If you are looking for another fast attack option I think the obvious choice is a landspeeder.
P.S.: You really should go with a tornado with the assault cannon. They are an absolutelly fantastic unit that can dish out pain in ways people would never guess. Of course, onece they realise they go after your speeder hardcore, but that has its own advanatages.
Have you seen the tacticas on bikes and speeders? They have a wealth of information in them.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
