Hey marine dudes!
Yesterday, I read the army list section of my friends codex, and what I saw was page after page of units that were superior to everything else I have ever seen or heard about. First, though your troops are a bit expensive, but they are clearly worth it, and with your cheap yet extremely effective vehicles, you can still field decent numbers. Second, all of your units seems useful and clearly worth their points. GW have not included screw-ups like the next-to-useless Fire Prism grav tank in your army, and you have no badly overpriced units like the guardian jetbikes or the shining spears. Are the space marines really as flawless as they look? Have you even got a weakness? What kind of tactics or units do you guys have trouble handling, if any? Come on guys, tell me what kind of units you have nightmares about the day before a battle! Exept for starcannons, I know that you marines are allergic to them :shifty:
Anything that eliminates armour saves. We live and breath our 3+. You want a marine player to scream cheese (or any other not nice phrase) bring AP3 or better weapons. Dark Reapers eat marines, you set them far back and shoot away.Originally posted by Farseer Sareld@Feb 28 2005, 11:52

Another thing is long range shooting. Marines really need to be 12" or less to do a lot of damage, no one will win the game just shooting lasscannons and heavy bolters.
If you build a man a fire he will be warm for a night. If you set a man on fire he will be warm the rest of his life.
The biggest drawback to a Marine army is the point cost. Most other army's can field at least 3 some times 4 units to our 2. That and the new restrictions on rapid fire weapons and assault's. I used to love the tac squad moving up six inches and firing, followed up by an assult. Now I have to use 2 squads to do that.
breath, sight, squeeze.
now double tap just for grins
and Another One bite's the dust.
A bolter round for all that oppose the Emperor.
We have no weaknesses. You shall bow to the emperor now or suffer eternal death!
Jack of all trades, master of none.
As a blood angels player my weakness is the unreliability of heavy weapons in my army. Devastators are worthless to me because of the Black Rage, as are any other heavy weapon I might put in a tac squad. My main weapons are assault cannons so already Im at a relatively close range. Sure I have lascannons but that will allow me to take out about 1 guy per shooting phase. So I'd say the weakness of a assault oriented army like blood angels is ranged combat
Tact is for people who give a damn. I'm not one of those people.
Space Marine weaknesses eh?? probably that there are alot of weapons out there that dont care about our 3+ save, a Basilisk will be much happier shelling expensive Marines than cheap Orks.
Eldar I would say take as many ap3/better weapons, dance on the Marines, they aren't particularly fast. Wave Serpents with Starcannon are famed for thier anti-Marine lethality,
Guided D-Cannon are nasty, Reapers will tend to have the enemys attention, they will be heavy boltered into oblivion.
Have joy if he takes a Land Raider, your Bright Lances render the ar 14 pretty pointless.
Eldar seriously need a re-vamp in my opinion, before Orks/nidz. But they are still lethal, fast and take a load of ap3 firepower.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Starting off... I play Eldar and Marines... I know, save the emperor, yea i know
Anyway, marines weakness (as was touched on) is the point cost, when i field tactical squads your looking at 9 troopers INCLUDING a heavy weapon and sgt with a power weapon for around 130 (round number). When i field guardians for that same cost your look at 15+ guardians with ASSAULT weapons, 12 in, but assault weapons, and a weapon platform that can move and fire compared to marines move or fire.
That's the main weakness, however marines excel in HTH and armor saves. Being an eldar player, then minute you go to make a save (if i get to... 5+ mesh armor..right...) you know your loosing more than half the figures. As a marines player maybe a fourth.
When it comes to tanks, same thing applies, yes the defense weapons can shoot more now, but with Eldar you could always move 6 inches and shoot, that's how you maximize output with the Fire Prism and the Falcon. The Fire Prism has an AP3 template! Any marine player will immediate sweat because you can slide out of terrain and fire it... (Farseer, write that down)
When you look at it though, it evens out, bolter fire tears eldar to pieces, but Eldar and retaliate with lots of AP3 weapons... I've used Dark Reapers to drop 6 marines from each squad per turn....
Oh yea, For the Emperor and all that stuff, down with Xenos (minus the space elves
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
Space Marines are just average at everything.. we can be outguned/ out done in cc / and out maneuvered.. but noone can do all 3 as well
my army's weakness?
the fact that I pay almost 30 pts for an assault marine, restrictions on vehicles, people complaining about black being a "cheap" colour.
also, 0-1 restrictions on almost all vehicles.
Aye cost is a pain sometimes.
But there are weak points, as there is with every army.
And aye, as was mentioned, in order to bolter stuff to bits we need to be with-in 12" of you....and when theres still lots of nasty stuff coming towards you, at that distance, its like...
"ARGHHHHHH GO AWAY!!! *BAM BAM BAM BAM* IM ONLY A HELPLESS SPACE MARINE!!! NO KEEP THOSE NASTY BIG RIPPING CLAWS AWAY FROM ME *BAM BAM* ARRRGGHHHH!"
And if your use traits, you are forced to take weak points.
My own army however doesn't fully use traits yet...Im still toying with the idea...I've taken true grit for a couple of my units...and that weakness that allows no drop pods.
But even If Im playing a normal dex army...with is normally what I do...I have one weakness already..I can't take Ven Dreads, since my fluff says so.
Toastee: "I think I'll take a Ven today! =^___^="
Army Fluff: *THACK*
Army Fluff: "NO! THATS A BAD TOASTEE!"
Toastee: "Sorry" =;_x=
