How exactly does the mine feild work?

Does it stay there for the rest of the game? So it deternates EVERY time a model passes over?

Does anyone know what happens when/if a tank or walker moves over it?

Yes it stays the entire game
it will blow up any time a unit friend or foe walks over it.
This includes tank and walkers (including skimmers)

Thanks! But what armour value do you use when a tank or walker gets hit?

Front, Side or Rear?

don't think friendly units are affected by mines (maybe they have a map or something showing them where they're placed?) and you can't deploy the mines over any of your own units.

If a tank or other vehicle moves over it, they take a strength 6 hit against their back armor.
.....oh my god... it's full of stars

I think the easiest answer is to read the excellent tactia on Whirlwinds recently posted. It demonstrates admirably the benefits of Whirlwinds and the minefields they can provide.

Sorry if I've done something wrong.. first post syndrome

Okay! Thanks for clearing that up!

I guess its better to use the mines rather than the missile if you're playing defensively.

The use of mines should not be looked at as a purely defensive option. The best form of defence is attack. Drop your mines to pin down your enemy, pin him down, restrict his movement, then send in the drop pods. SM's rule..

READ YOUR CODEX! Each of these questions is specifically answered there. Well except how long they last, that was a valid question.
