Hi. I wasn't actually sure whether to post this in the witch hunters or daemonhunters forum, since I'm trying to decide which would be more appropriate. But, to avoid doubleposting, I've just gone with the one which seems most likely. I'm sorry it's such a wierd question, but I hope you can bear with me.
Without meaning to be disparaging about the excellent theme of the witch hunters army, I'm looking for a more 'sci-fi' based inquisitor army, rather than the gothic approach favoured by witch hunters and daemonhunters. But I've heard that the Ordo Xenos book is going to be a long time, so I figured I might as well find some way to start playing early.
I understand noone really knows what the theme of the alien hunters book is going to be, beyond that it's going to have deathwatch (I was planning a radical army anyway) and the usual inquisitorial stuff like stormtroopers and assassins. For an idea of how this list conversion works, you could have an inquisitor with a shuriken pistol, and treat is as a bolt pistol (I seem to remember they have very similar stats), and alien mercenaries and hirelings (radical - remember) could be represented by IG or Kroot allies.
So, while this is an extremely difficult question, I appreciate, I was wondering if you thought this would work? I just need some opinions before I go out and buy a Codex.
I know how you feel man.
I want to make a force that is the House Army of a Navigator Great Family, and the best way to do this would be with Inquisitors and inducted SM. IN the fluff it says that Navis sometimes use xeno tech.
But I just know that if I build a force half-arsed usng WH rules, the AH rules will come out and be a legal version of exactly what I wanted in the first place.
I wouldn't say no if you wanted to play me with a shuriken pistol instead of a bolt pistol, as you said they are similar, but if anyone has a problem you can just use bolt pistol rules and have a shuriken pistol model.
The allies are a bit wierd though. Both KM and inducted Guard are a special kind of ally that relate to how many core (Inquisitorial) units you have, so it could be hard to take both. One or the other would be cool though. The only reason the other guys don't allow Kroot is coz they are frothing religious fanatics, so a more techno inquisitor should be able to use them I reckon.
Hopefully AH will allow xeno tech in the force, then the AH army could be used to represent many things such as Navigators, Rogue Traders, etc. It would be cool if they still had a Heroes of the Imperium list like in the old days so you could field rogue traders and mercs and stuff. After all the Imperium is a big place and not everyone are conscripts or brainwashed servants of the emperor.
PS what I am going to do is collect and paint a heap of IST as Navigator House Guard, and a chapter of inducted SM to go with them. Hopefully by the time I'm finished the Alien Hunters codex will be out and all I will have to do is add the Inquisitor/Navigator with appropriate equipment and henchmen. Till then my Ork WAAAARRGH continues I guess...
That sounds like a really cool army. Good luck with it.
I meant to say that I'd use a shuriken pistol on the model, and represent it with bolt pistol rules. So yeah, what you said.
And as for the add-on armies.. I didn't mean I'd field both. I kinda meant one or the other. The obvious thing would just to be to use kroot, but inducting guard allows you take a lot of cool guard units, and I don't know.. I think Ratlings would make excellent Hrud.
The other option would be to make an IG grenadiers army with lots of stormtroopers, and wait for the codex.
Maybe i am a little off base here, but wouldn't using aliens in an alien hunter list be a bit contradictory? I mean if they are out to rid the galaxy of aliens why would they let aliens tag along in their army? Weapons as trophies i can understand... but actual alien troops?
Much the same way radical DH inquisitors use Daemonhosts or radical WH use Penitents in their retinues, I can see some AH slaving a few bugs for his purposes.Originally posted by Seraphim Incarnae@Mar 22 2005, 13:20
