Was perusing the newly released Space Marine codex lately, and noticed that their Bionics wargear is different than ours. IG allows a come-back-from-death kind of effect, whereas the SM counterpart is applied against every wound taken. Have they re-written the Bionics rules for all codexes, or are SM Bionics simply different than IG Bionics?
The new Space Marine Codex got updated (I think most would say better) bionics. The older IG Codex still has the old timey bionics definition, which we will be stuck for a long time.
I think they new changes to the Space Marine Bionics made them more like the bionics that Chaos has had for awhile.
I am the Aquila-Guerilla!
its strange, chaos space marines, new space marines, and IG & DH all have different bionics (IG & DH have the same)... I think they did this for some reason, they havnt cleared it up in the 4th ed updates so I assume it was ment this way. Personally I like the IG & DH bionics over the other kinds...
Uhm sure. Anywho CSM and SM have the same kind of bionics, and I will tell anyone I play with IG or DH that they should use the new rules. Im sorry it makes absolutely and wholly no sense for their to be two variations of the same rule out there.Personally I like the IG & DH bionics over the other kinds...

Im in ur Halo, killin ur covernantz
Im going to check in a second but I am pretty sure there was an FAQ that stated you use the SM bionics for all now. After all, why roll when the character dies when you can roll each time they take a wound?
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC

this is very true for SM characters... however if you look at normal human characters (ie IG or Inq) then you may see why the other bionics is not as bad as you think.
SM bionics work like a backup save. if you fail your armor save, you basically get another 6+ save. however, you don't get it if they use an armor save denying CC weapon or an instakill weapon.
while this may not be a big deal to SM characters (since it takes a Str8 weapon to insta kill them), human characters are not nearly as tough.
IG/DH bionics works even if the character is insta killed or killed by an armor save denying CC weapon. which happens more often to a T3 model, who usually (especially IG) doesn't have as good of armor.
but still, i'd rather just have *one* set up rules for bionics, and if i had to choose, it'd be the SM version
I personally, being your typically bitter non-superhuman, find the fault of this to be a massive conspiracy of GW's to add yet another advantage to the Space Marines, thus milking more out of their cash cow, and to degrade the glorious Imperial Guard some more, due to some unexplained dislike they have for us. I mean, even the Space Marine version of Doctrines looked a lot cooler than ours.
But we don't need any fancy-pants bionics. We just need a lasgun and a flak jacket- maybe a bayonet if your local Space Marine Armory does'nt need any. That is our sales pitch, yes?
Well, assault cannons, teleport homers, and everything else that I've heard of that got changed in the SM codex has applied to all armies, so why wouldn't the new bionics rules? Codexpace Marine is the newest book, those are the rules to use.
ah but Dominatus, our doctrines are definitely way way better
