Okay I read the book 27 times, made my cool fields of death as per ED 4. P. 211. Still don't understand how many I can have and in what scenarios. Yes I understand hidden set up, as I read it I could have unlimited minefields (or booby traps) as they cost nothing??? Help confused.
PS Checked search under "minefields" and it only talks of flying pies
Page 205 of the hardcover book covers what you need.
As you stated, instead of deploying your actual units, markers representing the units are placed. The number of markers is limited to the number of units you have, since they represent the possibility of that unit actually being there. Ref: 'Hidden Set-Up'
Then, when a marker is revealed and that unit is actually in reserves 'Revealing Hidden Troops' there is a possibility of the empty markeing being a booby trap 'Minefields and Booby Traps'.
So the total number of minefields you could have (unless dictated by a special scenario) would be the total number of hidden units left in reserve. Obviously unless you roll amazingly well, there will be some number less than this.
Some scenarios specify the defender gets X number of boobytraps, barricades, or other special defensive terrain items.
Okay the light came on on re-reading. So obvious, so clear when read with your words, a five year old could understand it. Trouble was never had a five year old around to ask. My only worry is that the number of minefields I can have relies on my dice rolling ability. Probably didn't need to make so many then. Many thanks for your clear and concise help.
