Bloodclaws are best at CC, so I ask are blood claws a good idea to drop-pod in?
Pro's I see:
1) drop pod cheaper than rhino and can't be shot down
1) pistol weapons they will have limited firepower to protect themselves
2) little damage verse vehicles unless I add meltabombs at a total of 274
The drop pod may be cheaper and not get shot down, but its also not on the board and might not arrive when you need it. Roll bad and your BCs could be wainting for a while. That means the enemy can focus their firepower on a smaller portion of your army, and cause as much damage as possible while not worrying about the BCs.
Also, since you will have to sit in place for one round of enemy shooting after you land, and take casualties, is it really any safer than a Rhino? Depends on the rolls.
You may notice I don't like reserves at all. I tolerate it for Space Wolf scouts because of the way they arrive on the board, but I never use reserves for anything else unless the scenario forces me to.
But if you decide you want to DP, lets look at the other points you made:
1) They have the same weapons whether you DP or use a Rhino, so that doesn't come into the decision. Besides, they don't protect themselves with shooting, they assault. So you can take a round of shooting charging across the board (but also keep that shooting off the rest of your army), or take the round of shooting after you land (at much closer range I might add).
Little damage vs. vehicles
2)Equip them with power fists. Then you can use them to crack open vehicles if need be, but also as a handy weapon against tough troop enemies. With two fists an assault on a vehicle can be almost as effective as equipping with meltabombs. But again this has nothing to do with the choice between DP or Rhino.
My vote, don't DP.
Grey Hunters are a better choice for drop podding in my opinion. They have bolters, so they get get a decent round of shooting the turn they arrive. They also have true grit, so will have 2 attacks in close combat. Drop Podding is most effective against armies like Tau, Necrons, IG, and other hard to assualt armies.

My current army list has grey hunters being dropped in. It also includes a full compliment of BC in a LRC and was looking for future options if the LRC is too much of a non-surviving target.Originally Posted by Ebon Hand
Against say, a Guard army, I would seriously consider dropping a Bloodclaw Squad in. I am a big fan of the new drop pod rules (vs. the old ways).
If positioned correctly, and assuming you dont drop into the center of his firing line, you can often hide most of your bloodclaws behind the drop pod itself.
WolfRaider sums up the basics pretty well, but if you're like me and you want that element of surprise to hold above your opponents head and make him a little uneasy then go for it.
If nothing else, its worth a try (or three) in some friendly games to see if you like it or not.
