    Beakies

I have about 10 old "beakie" marines that I was thinking about painting. They have no chest eagle and not much detail. The question is what should I do with them? I'm just looking for some suggestions...

Do I make them a unique squad in my Ultramarine army?

Do I paint them in a different chapter's colors? If so, which chapter and why? Which chapters are among the oldest?

Do I paint them in a unique color scheme or use a little-known chapter?

Any info would be appreciated, and I'd love to see some painted examples if any of you SM players have any "beakies" that are painted.

    Beakies!!!

I make the beakies my Vet Marines (typically Vet Sarges or tac squad sarges). My point for doing so is that...

    A) they have been around for a while and therefore haven't died (duh), and Marines don't swap their taylor-made armor for the flavor of the month - their armor is theirs until they die

I think it defines them as being able to stay alive for such long period of time and so therefore becoming promoted to squad/vet squad sargeants

I would say make them have an important role in your army!

I would make them vets. If you don't want to keep them you could easily sell them on ebay as some people (myself included) are big fans of corvus helmets.

Failing that, you could easily make them into statuesque figures if you decide not to use them.

Looks much more ancient and prehaps on a pillar

As for old chapters, Dark Angels is pretty old.

Beakies arnt that old. Were up to what, Mk 7/8 armour. Beakies are Mk. 6

I use them as assault squad vet sarges. They look more streamlined and aerodynamic, and way cooler.
Id say use them as a veteran squad.
What are they armed with ?

I'm not a big fan of beakies, but I'm not big on wasting perfectly good bits either,so I gathered all my beakies (well...most of 'em) and stuck them in my Veteran Assault sqaud. I Painted all thier helmet's white, gave them a characterful Veteran Sgt, and dubbed them the "White Raven" squad, so now instead of being simply rediculous looking relics, the beakie helmets actualy serve a purpose for my armies fluff.

Beakies are very cool, all my sergeants and my Master wear one. Except my Veteran Sergeant with powerfist, but that was only because i ran out of heads. It's fun to costumize sergeants, i use the Dark Angels veteran models as standard troopers, and in my fluff the higher-ranking marines may remove their robes if they wish, they are also given a white mark 6 helmet from the chapters relic-shrine. The Chaplains still keep the robe on as a symbol of zeal, but almost everyone else take them off. Anyway, the morale is that beakies are great for costumizing!
