hey everybody i have been collecting space marines for a while now and i still ahven't bought a tank. I just came into some money and i'm wondering what kinda tank i should buy. I face mostly nids, and eldar and they generally have some form of an anti-tank weapon. Transport isn't all that important seeing as we generally play on a small table also i already have a devastator squad so i have some heavy fire that i can lay down
i just would like to know some suggestions on what tank to buy. any suggestions would be welcomed
thanks alot and nids beware
i think you should buy a predator, vindicator, or whilrwind. O wait, thats all you get...
You should get a whilrwind if your against eldar and nids, and maybe a predator just becuase they are awesome and are good against almost anything IMO.
Back from a long adventure.
i use mostly a shooting army and wait for my enemies to come to me before i charge
Do you want to take down hordes or heavy toughness models? For anti horde go for a whirlwind or a pred destructor with HB sponsons if you have the extra points. If you want to take down high thoughness things go for a pred annihilator with LC sponsons. It's definately one of my favorites.
You call those cheap implants boobs?
They aren't boobs, they're lies!
Predator Annihilator with heavy bolters is a great take, and versatile. It can fire all of its weapons on the move, it has the TL-Lascannon to take out enemy vehicles or nail some high T creatures or MCs. The disadvantage of an Annihilator is that with LC sponsons you'll only be able to fire one lascannon on the move.
A Predator Destructor is a great tank in an anti-infantry role, with an autocannon and HB sponsons, it can churn out 10 shots per turn that will mow down most eldar and nid troops. The autocannon also has a decent chance of wounding high toughness creatures with rending, and it even has a chance to take down any vehicle with rending on the AP roll.
A whirlwind is great, but it's need to be positioned correctly to receive max effectiveness, but it can also be so effective that it will get taken out quickly. That said, I'd rather have a predator in my army before I got a whirlwind.
A vindicator is also nice and can help to shape the battlefield, since it's pretty much a 24" no-no range for the enemy. It'll be a great fire-magnet in your army, but I'd rate it's overall effectiveness, in terms of killing, behind both predators and the whirlwind, primarily because of its short range and the fire it'll attract. It can be used as a great unit to draw fire though, or cover a section of the battlefield like few other units can.
Since you play nids, I will agree with the previous posters and say you should get a Predator Destructor with HB sponsons. Those weapons are all designed for anti-swarm. I think the autocannon has like 3 shots, and the 2 HBs have 3 shots each (I don't think theyr'e twin linked). That means that you can get 9 shots a turn. You can kill most, if not all, of a squad (Not vs IG, obviously) if you're lucky.
I can't believe nobody has mentioned the Land Raider or Land Raider Crusader?!?!?
If you have the money for either of these i would get one.
Anti nid, go for the LRC, Hurricane Bolter sponsons (3 twin linked bolters per sponson), twin linked assault cannon, and multimelta, and armour 14 all around.
It will be a fire magnet though - but it also has troop carrying capabilities.
LR good at taking down big, high toughness/strength/armoured enemies tank and other.
all depends on how much you have to spend and whether you can distract the enemy with other targets to extend the life expectancy of your chosen tank.
LRC can fire and move, so can the LR, both will be fire magnets
Whirlwind can't move and fire, and likely to be taken out if viewed as a threat
Vindicator can move and fire again a fire magnet
Predators i think can fire main weapon and move, but not everything, and again fire magnets if viewed as a threat
Don't overlook the capabilities of razorbacks though, cheap cost, crap armour but twin linked heavy bolter, or twin linked lascannon option, depending on who you are playing, could be worth a thought.
Space Wolves are badasses that operate just barely within the rules.
13th Co. didn't even know there were rules applying to how badass they could be.
... and Daemonhunters make it three - now just need a spare room to store it all!!!
