I don't know whether to give my long fangs 4 heavy bolters, or 4 missile launchers.
I favor the ML the most because i have a lot of anit infantry units but only 1 or 2 anti tank units.
Space Wolves 12-1
Wood Elves 1-2
Mix it up, half HB hlf ML
Three Companies of the 26th Vinancium
143rd Airborne Badgers (99.9% done)
159th Corsair Rifles (35% done))
69th Armored Wall Busters (95% done)
Total 197 men, 12 tanks, 4 Heavy Artillery Pieces
Why take 4 of one type? Unless Long Fang rules are different, you should be able mix and match, putting in 2 of one and 2 of another.
For example, my Devastator Squad has 2 Heavy Plasma guns and 2 Heavy Bolters. If you want Anti-Armor, I suggest 2x Missle Launchers and 2x Lascannons, or something of that variety.
I dont use Missle launchers at all in my long fangs squad....I leave that to my cycle missle launcher on my termie squad. The best combination I've found for my Long Fangs was 2 lascannons, 1 heavy bolter, and 1 plasma cannon. The Heavy Bolter and Plasma Cannon give you the Anti-infantry punch you want, and the lascannons give you a strong anti-armor attack. Also never forget the fact that lascannons and plasma cannons will pretty much insta-kill any non-monstrous creature on the table that doesn't have a Invulnerable save. Also...plasma cannons can all but the best armored vehicles.
If you're consistently playing against a more infantry based army though, you may want more HB's.
whatever will kill less of my DE . not like it matters, either one will take down a raidder and rip apart my warriors -_-;
Long fangs are already a priority target and imo you should not give them lascannons or plasma cannons because that just increases the speed to which they are completely annihilated
You save 60pts just giving them Mls and it keeps them below the 200pt mark which is a big deal if you're actually playing objectives and victory points
With only 5 members your 50+ pt lascannons are hardly worth it
Ok, I've had Lascannons and Plas Cannons in my Long Fangs squad from the start, and I can count the number of times they've been annihilated on one finger, and the times people have actually bothered with attacking them on one hand. Most people I've played against are too worried about trying to whittle down my blood claws or Termie command squad before they get into close combat. And besides, if their a high profile target, thats all the MORE reason to put Plas and Lascannons into the squad.....at least that way, you get a serious amount of damage done before they croak....whimper.....whatever. Plus the fact that the Long Fang Pack leader lets you split fire...... You would think they are a high profile target, but most people tend to dismiss them as "just another devastator squad" until they lose two or three tanks and a ton of infantry to them.
it all depends on what or who your playing. for an ork army use heavy bolters. for eldar the same. for marines mix it up put two lascanons and two heavy bolters. chaos the same as regular marines. necrons have heavy bolters and one missle and lascanon. dark eldar same as eldar. imperial guard use three heavy bolters and 1 lascanon for tanks bolters for infantry. tau use two heavy bolters and 1 lascanon for vehicles like devilfish and i plasm for vehicles and anti-infantry.
Due to firing controls you get quite a bit of liberty.
My suggestion is to lean to missile launchers. They can cover both anti-inf and anti-tank...They're not expensive and can autokill marine hero's. Want a marine squad out of your face? Fire 4 kraks into them. Want to kill a bunch of orks? Frag missiles...
Personally I'd take wepons with the same range....so you're not wasting your shots.
Anti-armour is more important than anti-infantry. At least with SW. Your bloodclaws can deal with infantry. So make 3 of the 4 anti-armour. So 2 lascannons/missile launchers, 1 heavy bolter and the fourth also a lascannon/missile laucher or a plasma cannon.
