Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was wondering whats the best way to get rid of the tau? my brother plays as them and his range seems to be unstopable. What can I do?
Well firstly I'd bulk up the information a bit. Give us an idea of his army list? What are his strategies? What units do you find a problem for you to deal with?
Close combat Close combat Close combat, as so you would think, having as much close combat units would 75% of the time work, however in my Tau army the Crisis suit can prove to be a good source of CC, also if he has Kroot, just shoot them. Like I heard before Shoot the Kroot, Pow the Tau. Playing against Tau you also dont want a lot of tank, mainly one or two. Also Krak missle launcher are you best friend ap-ing a crisis suits's armour and doubling their toughness is a good thing. Just get in CC with the firewarriors, out shoot the crisis suits, from long range and shoot the hell out of the kroot
The Predator Lingers forth. Suddenly the sound of several wipping sounds can be heard far off into the distance, a second later the once mighty Predator ignited with flames. "Sir what was that" The srgt replied "Its those damn Broadsides"
Hear the wip, fear the Broadside.
Strengh lies in the Armor!!!!
SM Rhino Army (proxied) W/L/D
Combat Patrol: 1/0/0
Proud bearer of the Imperial Medal of Anti-Fluff
Tau are a sticky problem, getting up close in descent numbers is handy, though Kroot can make this difficult, I'd sooner sit back with high numbers of heavy weapons, a couple of Russ to Draw rail gun fire (submunitions being a pain in the arse) and making use of Drop Troops (either Docturine or DSing Storm Troopers) with Plasma/Meltaguns to deal with popout attacks from suits.
hellhounds with hull mounted heavybolters!!
I play Tau and Guard, so I've got a nice perspective from both sides of the fence...
Anyways, Heavy Bolters kill Tau like nobody's business. And you can bring LOTS. I'd recommend bringing two Armored Fist squads with 2 Heavy Bolters on each Chimera, with Heavy Bolters in the squads. And a Plasma Gun, for anit-Crisis Suit duty.
Lascannons aren't the best tank and Suit-killing weapons, but they are by far the most plentiful. My current 1250-point Guard army has 4, and the 1500 one has 8 (Thank the Emperor for Sentinals.). They'll insta-kill Battlesuits, bypass saves and, once you get rid of any Drones-Heavy Bolters work GREAT-light up a Battlesuit like an Xmas tree.
Contrary to what you may think, Ogrys blow chunks against Tau. They stand around in the open for a turn, and get turned into leaky pieces of Ogryn by Pulse Rifles.
Don't try for Rapid Fire with the Lasguns. You won't kill many unless you're REALLY lucky, and Tau Rapid Fire beats the hell out Guard Rapid Fire.
Powerfists are good. They may strike last, but it's not like Fire Warriors slapping their soggy baguette close combat weapons against your men will take it out unless they get VERY lucky.
Take out the Devilfish ASAP. They're floating Transports of doom. A deadly tactic is to drive up with 2 Devilfish, unload the 24 Fire Warriors, and put 58 S5 AP5 shots into you (24 Fire Warriors, 2 Burst Cannons and the 4 Devilfish-carried Gun Drones.)
Missile Launchers are great weapons, too.
In the end, just load up on Heavy Bolters and Lascannons.
Burn the land and boil the sea. You can't take the sky from me.
Member of the Canadian Clan, eh.
Mech Tau Cadre: 2000 points, needs paint and magnets.
Paladins of Avalon (SW):-1500 points, needs paint.
Imperial Guard are the best shooty army there. Tau are like piss-weak Guard.
Stock up on heavy bolters and Hellhounds. Anything that can kill a lot of weak guys very quickly from a long way away.
you play guard yet your username is tau.
how bout using shaffer last chancers to produce 20 storm bolter carpace armor fighting men. it only cost 630 points. and the tau have weak armor on vehicles just watch out for railgun fire
