hey guys im relativly new to the daemonhunter thing, but very interested.
i was wondering what do you guys use to deal with armor, cause from what ive read and seen, thats that DH have a hard time dealing with, ive head about deepstriking dude with melta bombs, but is that the best way?
what do you guys use?
-land raider (both normal and crusader, tho they're rarely seen in battle due to their expensive prices)
-dreadnoughts (lascannon, missile launchers, or assault cannons)
-for low armored transports, chimeras (multi laser) or IST's plasma (i believe they shouldn't ever have melta. that leaves em too close to get assaulted, and that's just bad..)
-using inducted units with anti tank weaponry.
IST with Meltapguns, in a rhino. Rhino has a firing port. You can either deploy within 12" and shoot, or if the guy is silly and gets too close to the rhino, shoot out the port. Yeah, then the rhino counts as open topped the round after. But who cares? It's a rhino. This is best when combined with teleport homers, so after you deploy, you can drop GK in with them.
Induct something with lascannons.
The best way is to use either a Land Raider, Dreadnought with lascannon, or, as Sir_Prometheus pointed out, an IST squad with meltaguns. You can also increase the amount of firepower that squad has by giving a vet. sarge. a combi-melta and meltbombs, and joining an inquisitor with combi-melta and meltabombs.
The other ways are to use inducted heavy weapons or orbital strikes.
Plasma guns and psycannons can be very effective against low-armored vehicles. (i.e. rhinos, land speeders, sentinels, etc.)
A Dreadnought with a lascannon is a great addtition to a larger army, and a squad of ISTs with meltaguns in a rhino is great at dealing with armor, too. I don't like inducted troops but one thing I have tried are inquisitor with retinues which are tailored to antiarmor roles.
Multimeltas and sages are a powerful combination.
It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong.
Who are you to judge what is sane and what is not??
Eh, for the most part we don't 'deal' with tanks, we deepstrike a 500 point unit of GKTs guarding a pimped out GM next to their monolith's ass and NFW the hell out of it...
Hey, it works!
Not much to say that hasn't been said. Induct something with lascannons (IG, the best to induct, or SMs). I'll make a list.
-Lascannons (inducted or dread)
- Land Raiders of any flavor, LR if you're dealing with something you don't want to get close to (Defiler?), LRC if you want more ways to kill it from a short(er) distance.
- Melta bombs (Justicars in FAGK squads, Vet Sarges in =][=STs)
- =][=STs (Melta bombs on the Sarge, krak if you pay for 'em, only good vs. AV 10/11, Meltaguns)
- Multi-meltas (Gun-servitors)
There you have it.
A man's at odds to know his mind, for his mind is aught he has to know it with.
As a good friend of mine says, deal with the "God Damn F'ing Objectives". GDFO's. Unless you're playing a meatgrinder mission, then why bother worrying about your opponent's one or two tanks? Get in there, and hit up the GDFO's.
GK are S6. That, right there, is enough to deal with AV12 and less. Hell, stormbolters tear apart AV10, considering how many shots one GK squad gets per turn.
Meltabombs on DSing Justicars (can't put them on termies, remember).
IST with melta or plasma guns. Vet IST with meltabombs, and a combi-melta or plasma pistol.
Chainfist on a GK Hero or Thunderhammer(s) on GK Terminators.
LRC - as much as I dislike anything that expensive, they're extremely effective, and not JUST at taking out vehicles.
GK Dreadnoughts are too fragile for their cost, imo. But if you use them, Assault Cannon/DCCW/Incinerator is a BEAST in this game. A Multi-Melta instead of the Assault Cannon is more fluffy, but less effective. A Twin-Linked Lascannon/Missile Launcher setup is excellent for long ranged anti-tank as well.
I'd suggest not using an Inquisitor firebase for anti tank. Multimelta servitors are rather expensive, and your foe will DEFINITELY destroy the unit's transport asap, leaving you with a rather ineffective unit.
Hmm...Deep Strike Psycannon-equipped GKs to take out the soft rear armor?
