hi, in the imperial guard summery there are the stats of a multi melta, but I fail to find a unit that uses such a gun. So why is it there?
I believe a member of a command platoon may use a multi-melta.
He cannot. Combat Servitors and Leman Russ Demolishers can have them.Originally Posted by taint_of_the_dark_ones
Of course, my mistake Nurglitch. He can have a meltagun. Anyway, you are right. A demolisher and combat servitor (who uses techpriests anyway?) may have them.
Orkboy mentions in his IG Tactica some of his friends who do. There was also a tournament list published on Portent that included the bugger. But while I can understand fielding him with tech servitors, I can't for the life of mine fathom why would anyone field him with combat ones or close combat onesOriginally Posted by taint_of_the_dark_ones
I feel they are a waste of a doctrine, just to get a multi-melta armed servitor. He is unlikely to fix a vehicle and must be in base contact with them at the start of turn, talk about restricting. Also, isn't a combat and close combat armed servitor the same thing? :p
He is likely if he is accompanied by tech servitors - it will be a roll of 2+. But such a unit costs 85p without additional wargear for the Techpriest - a dreadful cost. I suppose in the game of 2500p you might go for having two such units, hugging the butts of Lemans (being in base-to-base all the time) and making them virtually invulnerable to anything short of "destroyed" result.
The fighting servitors are of two types: gun servitor and combat servitor. The combat one comes with powerfist (at WS4, S3/6) and costs bloody 25p, thus making such a unit 145p. I just fail to see the point - it will get raped even in CC with tactical Marines and it is a huge, huge point sink. Someone was very drunk when he made the points costs for the guard.
Feel i should mention that theres a forgeworld (elysian?) sentinel which comes equipped with a multi-melta. Deepstriking sentinels could come back into fashion...
HALO 2 - Sure those first few games where you wipe out the opposition with the rocket launcher, overshield and camoflage are fun but after a while you start looking for something more. Next it has to be death by plasma sword or sticky bomb, till pretty soon only clobbering your opponent with the butt of your rifle will do. The more difficult something is to do, the more fun it is when you pull it off. For IG players the word for this is Mobility
I have used Techpriests and servitors, and the thread is basically correct, too much points for what you get. The only real effective way to use them is to give the Techpriest 4 tech Servitors, and put them into base to base contact with two tanks, ie Basilisk and Russ, and them fix either on a two plus.
It is a damn shame, as the Techpriest model is about the coolest IG has!
