I have never includes bikes in my army before(i dont know why)
but recently i picked one up to see if i was missing out on something cool
And it turned out bikes are the coolest models i have ever seen
So how many bikes do you think are needed to be effective.
I think i will get
1 HQ librarian on bike
about 5 bikes maybe 2 squads
cheap scouts with heavy weapons
and devastators all rocket launchers maybe tank hunter skill
what do you guys think i have only the devastator squad so i would buy every thing else

I think I may disagree with you on the Chaplin vs Librarian thing , I have had great use out of mine. They are handy at being a pest on the enemy if you give him Fury if the Ancients and Might of heros or Veil of Time ( pick one of the two ) 1. He can be a real annoying model for your enemy ( with all the beams of super doom he keeps firing out ) and in cc he can be quite evil ( with the force weapon and the cc spells , a.k.a. Veil of Time , Might of Heros ) And he will be mounted on a bike ( even better if you have him ride with one of your bike squads ) so he can get in faster , I agree with the Dev. squad idea and Scout bikes wouldn't hurt either. Bear in mind I don't have my Librarian on a bike but He is still very handy ( he should get into cc much faster this way , and EVERY fight i've played has ended in cc ( except games against the Tau ) All in all I like the idea its like Raven Wing with big guns =)

I have 11 bikes, But I havent fielded them in a long time, just mainly because my terminators are the same cost. But if youre gonna field bikes, make sure you field enough to be useful. I'm not sure exactly what you have now, but another good option are landspeeers.With the assault cannons and hvy bolters you can tear through infantry and as long as your careful the most they can do is maby get ya with meltas or a few lucky shots with a bolters if they are regular troops that your firing at.

I have about five bikes and a chaplain on a bike who I only play occasionally. I mostly leave the chappy out and just use the five-man squad, which is very expensive in itself and it's all I'll really need.

also check out the space marine tactics post at the top. It contains some nice info including how to utilize bikes and is imo a required read

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
