Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok after my brake from warhammer i want to start a marine aymy but there is so much to chose from so maby u guys can help me. Here are my requirments.
I want a full frontal assault army so i guess that already rules out raven guard.]
I want a infantry based chapter.
I want a army that never says never, that will fight to the last man.
A chapter with a long fighting history, dont need to be a founding chapter just one with alot of history.
I dont want a goody goody chapter, more of a get down and grity type chapter.
One with a historical captain like lysander, shrike or tigurius.
Also one with a enemy like black templars = orks. Ulramarines = tyranids.
I will suggest something in a moment, but firstly i would say you need to pick a chapter that is pleasing to you, whether it be the colour of the army, the weapons they have access to, the chapter symbols, the army fluff - whatever the reason, i'm sure you have a liking of at least one chapter already, so i would so go with your gut feelings.
Now for the suggestion
They like close combat, and are good at it
You can take them as an infantry army, or tool them up with vehicles, they have the ability to be good on a number of fronts
Blood Claws will not retreat, and unless you put an independant character in their pack, they have to charge into an enemy that is within 6 inches of them.
They have a long history, don't know it that well myself, but i'm sure others can tell you of it.
They are far from a goody goody army, one of their company's known as the 13th company have chaos tendencies, whilst not actually being affiliated with chaos
As for characters, there is Logan Grimnar, Ragnar Blackmane and Ulrik the Slayer, stats for which are found in the chapter approved codex
And their enemy is the Thousand Sons
Whether you choose SW, is now up to you ... enjoy whatever you choose.
Space Wolves are badasses that operate just barely within the rules.
13th Co. didn't even know there were rules applying to how badass they could be.
... and Daemonhunters make it three - now just need a spare room to store it all!!!
Full frontal assault?
It's pretty simple.
Black Templars or Blood Angels. Space Wolves are good too, and have a totally different army list so most people play them for their unique style. Full frontal assault, though, that's BT or BA. Personally, I think you're looking for Black Templars, even if they do have a lot of Land Raiders in place of infantry. As for never giving up, that covers practically all Marine chapters. Space Wolves have some very characterful special characters - although somewhat generic. My opinion is, of couse, exactly that, and highly biased since I play Blood Angels myself.
Of course, Blood Angels do have Mephiston. I think we all agree that Mephiston is the bomb.
I woude say the 13th company here not blood angels for one reason... (not sure about this but...) the 13th company don't use tanks so there alot more infatry based then the blood angels (got there own predetor class.) But i am not sure if there are any special characters for the 13th company or if they can use the space wolfs characters but other then that they are as good as perfect for you...
If there are any bad speling in my posts please don't compline, I am dyslexic... (Realy nice word to give people who has problems speling right...)
Space wolfs, mmm im not sure on them i dont know why but i have never rea;y liked them even though they meet all me requirements. I was thinking of Black templars or imperial fists. I also like the blood ravens chapter even though there aint alot about them they have the 'flesh over steel' trait that means they are limited in the use of vehicles also i think i would have great fun making commander anglous * ,also crimson fists but they also lack fluss in the codex infact i dont think there is anything about them in the codex except their traits. But im still not 100 % sure. Keep the advice coming guys.
If you really want an army like that with those requirments, make up your own, but that kind of neglects the cool special characters aspect. but if your looking for a known chapter i'd agree witht the others on Black Templars or Blood Angels. Black Templars have access to the emperors champion and are a very zealous and angry army, they don't have scouts per say, but i think they include them with normal tac squads and the like. blood angels are a bit like khorne, there maniacs and are veyr strong in melee, they have there own special company known as the Death Company and they are incredibly fluffy per say.
i'd say you would love BA's
1) if you want a fully frontal assault army, what better army than one that gives you * initiative and str on top of the extra attack on the charge
2) you can make almost any chapter use mostly infantry
3) an army that never says never...that prett much describes most SM chapters, but what other chapter's master has a jump pack to get into the fiercest part of combat quicker?
4) pretty obvious, BA have a pile of history, then again most chapters do
5) BA are far from a goody goody army, a flaw in the gene seed, crazy DC members, and criticism from other chapters
6) captain tycho and mephiston should meet your requirements here
7) hmm i don't think they really have a prefered enemy, i just like playing vs orks because of tychos history lol
<Edited out stat for charge bonus. Please be careful with what you post. -Chaosbrynn>
But the space wolves have the bad blood rule which means they hit dark angels and thousand sons on 3+ on top of that is the wolf tooth necklace, the frost blade, which you can take more than one. And Ragnar Blackmane which is a pimp. If you want to get deeper into it the 2nd edition codex had a great story about Ranulph, he was a Wolf Guard Battle Leader that with his retinue, had a last stand so the rest of his chapter could pull out and wait for re-enforcements. At the end the orks respect them with throwns made out of the wargear from the dead to put him on.
BAs sound as if they are for you. They are a frontal assault army, they dont use that many tanks due to the black rage.
They are lead by a cool characters leading them, and they never say die although i dont know who their arch enemy is?
They have unique hard as nails assault units such aseath Company,Honour Guard,Vetran assault squads.
They also have acess to the Furiouso dread which is an awesome cc monster!
The other unique amor they have access to is the Baal class predator which is capable of mowing down infantry and tanks with its rending,i mean 2d6 +6 on armor pene. even a landraider wobbles at the thought of that!
Hope that helped

BA or Space Wolves, or Ravenwing (DA)Originally Posted by SorrowAnyone, DA, Space Wolves, BAOriginally Posted by SorrowDark Angels own the competition here. When Azrael is on the Table, no one budges, and you can get extra turns in random game length battles. And they have a Character in a land Speeder. Think BS 5. Then, think Twin-linked Assault cannon and Heavy Bolters. Then think a vehicle with a 4+ inv. save. And Masters can have a [high strength] power weapon.Originally Posted by SorrowSpace Wolves, DA. Space Wolves: mentioned previously. DA: The Fallen. They go way out of line to get them. And with Blades of Reason, you can capture and torture enemy models for bonus victory points.Originally Posted by Sorrow
I obviously like DA, but if I didn't play them, I'd call it a tie between DA and SW. As for color scheme, Red is a little queer, so I'd go for SW or DA again. If you want just a really, really good special character, it's a tie between Logan Grimnar vs. Master of the Ravenwing.
