Just got my new Land Raider Crusader. Joy!
I've noticed the LRC comes with all the neccessary part for a reg Land Raider. How easy do guys think it is to make the sponsoons and TL assault cannons switchable? I guess I'll have to leave the frag launchers on, but switching the weapons should be enough for me to have it be whichever version I want. I might be looking into making two seperate pintle mount guys to switch out, too.
This sort of thing is very routine with Tau vehicles, we do it all the time, but I don't hear much about it with Imperial vehicles.
Interesting idea. It should be fairly easy to switch the assault cannon for a heavy bolter, but you might have more difficulty with the sponsons on the side. They, as you are sure to have noticed, are made entirely of metal. So, once you put them together, they are very heavy, and nothing I know of, short of super glue, (and that doesn't work sometimes) will hold them in. Just puttying it up won't work.
Yeah, I was actually hoping for some arrangment to clip them in and out.
Every Tau player has their Hammerheads with swichable weapons, particularly the turret gun, but the side guns too. Some even go nuts and make the Hammerhead convertable to a Devil Fish. I always need more Hammerheads than devil fish, so it's not so useful for me.
When I built my LRC, I used magnets (the little ones 1.6mm x 6mm I think). I glued one magnet to the inside door and another magnet to the sponsor case holding the storm bolters. Then with a couple of extra magnets between them (1 or 2) it stays in place nicely. I already had a LR built and glued together, so unfortunately I can mix and match, but I think it's really cool to take off a sponsor of bolters when I get weapon destroyed.
I also used two magnets to put my smoke launchers on the vehicle. This way if I don't want to pay the price I can take them off, but more realistically I take them off after firing them during a battle to show they were used.
I'm really getting into using magnets on vehicles so I can switch stuff around and not be locked into one configuration.
Anyways, I hope that helps a little.
PS - I got the magnets on an auction site - the biggest (in case I can't name names).
