hi all my friend is gonna start witch hunters he will have the codex buy next week but he is also gonna buy the basic stuff there (1 HQ and 2 Troops) he wants a kinda close combat army with some tanks to support them he was also say that he wanted to get a few pendent engines any way i dont know any thing about them so i came to you's
so the question is
what should he get first (the 1 HQ and 2 Troops) and then what should he get next?
also he will be going against blood angels(me) tau ig and nids if that will help thanks in advance =)
TAU suck, Blood angels rule
Ok. If he wants a good 750 point army.. I'm thinking:
Cannoness tooled for CC (cload of st Aspira, Blessed Weapon, Rosarious) w/ Celetsian Retinue, maybe in an immolater/rhino
Inquistor tooled for CC pysker hunting - as most of your opponents will take adversaries rules (power stakes, combie-stakes Hammer of the Witches), Reutine of CC, Penitants, acoyltes.
Any Assasin of his chosing (They are all good in thier way - Personally like the Vindicare, and Eversor)
10- Battle sisters - anit infantry (flamer, heavy flamer, Vet. with power sword)
10-battle sisters - antitank/ armour (2 metla guns, vet. with plasma pistol and metla bombs)
10 Seraphim tooled for what ever you want (Flamers, inferno pistols, meltabombs, vet wtih power sword and plasma pistol)
Exrocist with Extra armour.
About 4-5 faith points, around 750-1000 points.
Good luck to you and your friend,
See you on the other side of the table...
This isn't really a specialised army, just a "good v all" army. At least I think it is.
Against who he is vsing I would not take Penitant Engines 'cause the Blood Angles will own it in CC (most of the time), as will the nids, and the Tau will tin-open it.

if he is leaning towards cc
get a canoness blessed weapon, cloak of st aspira, book of st lucius.
preist (need it if hes gettn penitent engines)
eviscerator power armour
(put these two in a rhino with a celestian retinue superior with eviscerator)
7 bolter, heavy flamer, flamer, superior eviscerator
7 bolters, 2 meltas, superior book of st lucius melta bombs
a couple of penitents NEVER SINGLE PENITENTS!!!
havent counted but that should be between 750 and 1000
its not a great list but when you start collecting my advice at least 3 boxes of sisters and canoness, a preist if you want penitents.
hope that helps
Honestly, I would say that the witch hunters are not a close combat race. (aside from their characters).
Their three main CC units are penitents and arco-flaggelants and repentia. Penitents are destroyed by defensive weapons with ease, and arco-flaggelants just kill themselves to easily, as well as being easy to destroy (considering points). Repentia are decent, but in small armies, a decent sized squad is rediculously expensive.
I have to disagree with white hawk. Always take single penitents, but multiple single penitents.
That way a burst of fire can't finish all of them off.
For a basic army (small), he should get a canoness, 2 squads of sisters, a squad of seraphim (not my favorite, but everyone seems to love them) and an exorcist. Maybe add an inquisitor, and an assasin, or some celestians.
You have just recieved the Amish Computer Virus. Since the Amish don't have computers, it is based on the honor system. So please delete all the files from your computer. Thank you for you cooperation.

You may want to have him get a hold of a copy of US WD#292 for the Zealots rules. Then have him try to put together a suitable assortment of models to simulate the "unwashed masses" - (the witch hunter's range from Mordheim usually fit that bill). Priests would fit along nicely with them, which will also allow you to use Engines if he really needs to use them.
Also a tooled up cannoness (or palatine) - cloak of St. Aspira, Mantle of Ophelia, Jump Pack and either a blessed weapon or an eviscerator can be a monster against non-vehicles or vehicles respectively.
EXTRA NOTE: Zealots got reprinted recently in UK WD, although I'm not sure of it's number.
I'm think that your friend should be the one asking the question....
Other than that he needs a Canoness/Palatine and 2 squads of SoBs, from there he needs to test the other units and wargear to figure out his playing style with WH, We could give you the WH unbeatable list but if it dosen't fit how he plays its worthless, he needs to find his own route. But as for my armie I'm aming to get the most use out of the WH Codex so I'll have a bit of everything!
"We could give you the WH unbeatable list but if it dosen't fit how he plays its worthless"
theres an unbeatbale witchhunter list??
hmmm and i thought it was luck that helped me win
