here we go,
i originally wanted a sob army but it was way to expensive to buy all of those mini's. so since i also liked bts i decided to go with them and save the sob army for later. i don't have the codex yet (i'll need two right. codex spacemarines and codex armagedon?.), so bear with me plaese. do i need to take another hq besides the EC? and becuase of this how feasible is it to do a 500 pt army? and finally, do i need to take a certain number of neophites (scouts, i think), and if so what is the advantage of them? and is there any thing alse major i should know about black templars?
any help is good nelp.
You need Codex Armageddon, Codex Sm, and the FAQs from the GW website on how to use them.
You always need to take the EC, but yes you will need another HQ, he doesn't count as your compulsary HQ. While this may be a handicap in low point games, so I'd try to play games of at least 1000pts. You can take Neophites, which are there so that BT squads can be up to 15 strong, they basically act like cheaper marines to bolster numbers.
BT are the SM uber-CC army. Always take the hit on a 3+ vow (it's too powerful not to), use loads of basic marines with Bolt-Pistols and CCWs for lots of attacks, make sure every squad has a powerfist wielder (not power weapon, power fist. The power fist is 'hidden' as the model cannot be singled out, so you can keep attacking with it until he is the last man. Makes your BT squad able to kill Wraithlords...) and most importantly.....get into CC. Try talking to some of the veteran Black Templar gamers on here for advice and good combos. Try messaging Blood God. Hope this was of help.
thanks for the help.
so is it worth it to play a 500 point game with a really cheap alternitive hq, or or should i try a 750/1000 point list. cause i really want to just start playin'
In a 500 point game, youre going to be limited to 395 points of stuff you actually choose, since the Champ is 105 points. Still, if you want to get a feel for it, grab a cheap Marshal and two troops choices and start cracking some skulls!
The important thing is to not fall into the stereotypes surrounding the Black Templars. They aren't invincible(in close combat or otherwise) or overpowered, aren't just for close combat, and the other vows are useful in the proper situations as well.
Their advantages are that they are one of the Top Tier Close Combat forces, though they aren't restricted to it. Also, their Vows are geared towards helping them towards their goals, whichever they may be in that game, granting them a certain vesatility.
The major thing you should know is that the Black Templars have no Librarians, as they have a healthy distrust of Psykers, and have no Scouts, who instead are trained directly in battle as Neophytes, or Novitiates (which by the way, there is no number of them you have to take, but you can add them into your squads for greater numbers).
Like Addoran said, there's plenty of people willing to help you out with any questions you have.
