The title say it.
My vote is Chimera. For something like 30 extra points, you get two heavy weapons. That's cheaper than buying two heavy weapons in most squads in the game. Sure, the side armor is weaker, but the front armor is stronger as well. I like them.
I go for plain cheapness, as the transports don't last very long if you don't get the first turn to pop smokes, so I vote for the rhino.
Chimera 'cause it has other uses besides transporting and can lay down lots of fire.
I agree on the Chimera. In practice, I find that most people will ignore transports, unless they're carrying something like Death Company troops. Especially in an IG army where there are way more important targets to focus tankbusting weapons on. The Chimera is way more useful than a Rhino in that the fire it can lay down is much more effective that the (max) PM storm bolter on a Rhino. When you add it that it can support the troops it dropped after it finishes transporting them, the Chimera is a much more valuable transport in my mind.
I was stunned when I recently noticed that DH Chimeras can't have heavy stubbers, as IG can (when I assume, I make an ass mostly out of me). An IG Chimera can lay down a lot of fire with one of those. However, for DH, you're almost doubling the cost of the transport for a few extra shots. If those shots do any good, the tank will get popped the next turn anyway. So, you're doubling the points cost for one round of shooting. Myself, I wouldn't take more than one of them. Just put your stormies in a Rhino, run them as as quick as can be, and let the teleport homers do the rest.
-Rhino if primary role is forward transport (ex. IST with Meltaguns / someone w. homer)
-Chimera if counterstrike transport/firesupporttank.
Personaly I prefer the Rhino due to: better sidearmour, cheaper, fireslots, exitpoints.
besides with DH you dont need a couple more of s6/s5 attacks ... you need to get thoose meltaguns within range..
I say it's all about firing out the firing port with a melta.
I would say that it depends on which squad is using it, and how large of a game. Say, for instance, a IST squad with 2 meltaguns needs a transport, go for a rhino. It's cheaper, draws less attention (mentally) and it doesn't matter if you drive 12'' because you can't really fire anything of importance anyhow. If, however, that same squad had plasma guns instead, then go for a Chimera, as that squad would be used for fire support, and, as said before, a chimera can lay down a lot more fire than a rhino. If you take an assaulty inquisitor, give him a chimera, because the ability to have 2 heavy flamers hit the target squad before you charge is priceless.
