Well, yesterday, one of my friends brought this army from the internet for about 60Ā£:
3 Leman Russ
10 heavy bolters, 3 autocannons, 6 mortars, 6 lascannons, 5 rocket launchers, all with crew
16 spec weapon guys ( Flamers, melta- og plasmaguns)
Col. Schafers Last Chancers
1 unit of storm troopers with heavy bolter and auto cannon
Various officers + psykers ( 7 )
75 guardsmen (incl. sergeants, vox casters ect.)
Codex Imperial guard and Catachan
Now, I have been asked to ask you guys a few questions:
A) What is a griffon?
How big lists can he make of this, without having to buy more stuff?
C) And finally, he wants to use marines, WH and guard in the same army list. Can that be done?
ok i can answer a and c, cant be bothered doing b... :p
ok a griffon is basically a mortar on wheels...the stats are in imperial armor i think...but defenatly in the old codex.
for c he cant use marines and guard but he can with whitch hunters. he can also do that for demonhunters.
P.S. Blood angels rule, the anger lets us ignore wounds ...hehehe
A) As said griffon is a mortar tank.
He can make some pretty large lists O_O i find that army very cheap for the price... he can make a lot of infantry army.. seeing lots of guardsmen also lots of heavy weapons. Iono about the points size.. guessing 2k?
C) No he cannot use sm and ig at the same time.
C) He can use IG w/ DH & WH, taking GK as DH... they are technically marines.
Just one question.. Stormtroopers with HB & autocannon? what? The only way to field those would be as vets with the carapace doctrine.. at that point you'd have to use Last Chancers otherwise you wouldn't be able to field any troops (given the lack of stormies).

The rules for the griffon can also be found in the Chapter approved section of the UK website.
But aren't those for AC? Those rules can't be used for normal IG, unless they are the same stats/point cost as in the old codex. Which, btw, the website says in one of the articles that the griffon and exterminator from the old codex are still viable, they just took them out of the codex so that they wouldn't have to stock them in stores, so then IA isn't needed in any case.Originally Posted by Tomjoad

but it rocks absolutely, too!
They are for AC, and I don't know anything about the old codex at all. However, most friendly games (in my group, anyhow) would allow use of AC tanks, particularly a tank as weak as the griffon that would take the place of a russ or bassie. That said, I do want to get a griffon, since I have an unhealthy devotion to the mortar.Originally Posted by Rhodeta
Sareld, hi mate, they let you out the Eldar forum?
OK Griffons rules are in IA1, the ones in the Armoured company rules are about the same but they omit the line that tells you when you can use them in a standard IG force, I cant repeat those here as it breaches GW copyright but it is fairely obvious, unfortunatley you need permission from your opponent to use IA, so it probably wont come out in tourneys.
Overall your fried has about 2000 points worth, what he does have is a lot of spares, eg I make it 14 to 15 heavy support choices, 5 of which can not be used for anything else
Yeah.. feel strange here outside the eldar forum.. ha ha.
Thanks for the help guys, I donĀ“t know what would have happend to me as a 40k player without people like your helping me (Y)
My friend seems very keen on armored companies, seems like I have to stock up on those bright lances...
If you can find the Chapter Approved book from 2003, I think there are rules in there that allow you to take six deathwatch SMs and a Rhino- this counts as your second HQ choice.
