Iv heard that the best way to beat a monilith with space marines is to ignor it. But, can you do that with the kind of weapons it has and what kind of weapons are on it? SO any advice on how to fight one?
Take an 8-man dev squad, give them the tank hunter ability, and give them 4 lascannons. Now you have a quite resilent squad, that can dis out 4 BS4 S10/ round. That will make short work of just about anything..
What a terrific way to waste 284 pts. A five man devastator squad with 4 missile launchers will do the trick. OR, since Necrons are awesome when they deep strike a lith, keep a vindicator handy. S10 + 2D6 and take the highest. Ordnance isn't affected by the living metal rule.Originally Posted by Farseer Sareld

A cool thing to do to him is exactly what he does deep strike 2 or three dreadnoughts right in the middle of his army and let em loose that will tie up every thing and have a couple 5 man squads with lascannons and maby a predator or two blast the **** out of it
Right....lots of incorrect answers here.Remember the Living Metal rule for the monolith states that always the unmodified strength must be used. Tank-hunters does not work against the Monolith (cleared up by a Necron FAQ).Take an 8-man dev squad, give them the tank hunter abilityAND you don't get extra dice for penetration, so Assault cannons can't hurt it at all....OR, I'd take three Land speeders with Assault cannons and rend the **** out of it.
Please therefore ignore the previous answers given. The best way is probably either a 4 Lascannon Devastator Squad (without tankhunters for the obvious reasons), or a 4 melta squad. Either way the approach is the same, pelt it loads of shots and hope for a penetrating 6. You better pray you get the 6 though, as seeing as the 'lith generally ignores most of the glancing chart, your squad is probably going to be on the receiving end of a particle whip if they fail.
dude just ignore it, you will thank yourself
Whatever you do, do not get within 12'' of it because then it will shoot the hell out of you. That would be foolish. As such, power fists, melta weapons and melta bombs are virtually useless since you'll get cut up in the shooting phase that close. Go for long-range, preferably ordance - the lascannons are a good idea.
Rather then destroy it why not just lure it away from your army? Get some kind of fast attack to go in, shoot and then skirt away. This way the monolith will be tied up the whole game while your forces are free to go after the Phase Out units unmolested. Maybe use the Land Speeder with the missile launcher (not sure what it was called...Typhoon I think).
Like i said do the same to him that he did to you DS a dread or 2 into his mass of cron warriors and use some bikes or something to get them into cc then charge witht the dreads
Unfortunatly if he deap strikes more than 1 you will have to destroy them and the best way to is tanks they will take little damage from the lith and are pretty well armed
The best thing to do is let it chase an assault squad around but this may not work
Remember get the crons below 25% they will all then disapear kill his crons not the monolith
It's a landraider, shoot it with enough lascannons and it will die.. Alternatively just kill the necrons and it will vanish
As stated above, a dev squad with 4 lascannons is an ultimate waste of points as you should never ever put them in dev squads. Use your tactical squad lascannons to bring it down
Don't assault it with dreadnoughts, they hit on 6s and then get owned by everything else in the army when they fail to dent the monolith
