I bought the newest WD and in it were rules for the DW. I built a squad of these because fluffwise i reckon they're one of the coolest spacemarine units. But now ive had a look at the rules im finding that fielding a DW squad is not viable for me. I play a 1500pts and thought that adding a squad of Death Watch would be nice (since i already built one). The thing that peeved me the most was that a Death Watch spacemarine squad takes up a HQ slot. Sure id understand if i took a captain or librarian then a HQ slot would be fine. But i dont want to field a captain/librarian but instead i have two normal leaders in my army. i think the DW should take up an elite slot but thats just me. Antther thing is points cost. These dudes take up a huge amount of points if you plan to field a decent sized squad.
Veteran with Powerfist
2 DW with HB (there trademark weapon)
3 DW with bolters and Special Ammo Type
At 25pts a marine, do you guys find that fielding a DW squad is worthwhile? And how and why would you use these guys.
Ultramarines Second Company
i know there as much as deamon hunters but no where near as good long range or even short range i might not ever use them apart from a small kill team someday
it also says in issue 306 of white dwarf you can upgrade tactical marines veterens and HQ to the death watch so i guess u can have a full army if your fast attack and heavy support are just land speeders and raiders
DW are xeno hunters. They hunt nids, orks, eldar cept they dont have anything special that makes them effective against xenos cept for some ammo
See im choosing between a squad of DW or a squad of Nid' Hunters and im leaning towards Nid Hunters. Cept now that i have DW squad id like to know if they are actually useful. In this same issue of WD the DW did extremely well against Nids but really the DW are just expensive marines arent they.

Ultramarines Second Company
Deathwatch can be customized even further to fill a particular role on the battlefield, however if you are expecting them to be a super space marine squad you will be mostly disappointed. they do have the ability to take the special ammo, which can become very effective against xenos armies. However, if your looking to field them against other marines or chaos.... they will come up short.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
Depends what you give them...Its quite possible to forget the ammo for other 3+ save armys and give them all Power Weapons! =^.^=
Costly yes, so its not adviseable for 1500 points or less. And its even 50/50 for 2000 depending on who and what you know you might be facing.
...but still up to 30 power weapon attacks XD!
"YEAH, GET BACK UP AFTER THAT NECRON PANSY BOY!"
