I am looking to add a shooty unit to my current Daemonhunters force and was looking at the inquisitor lord with retinue. I think I am going to use this configuration. What do you guys use, and how does it preform for you?
1 Inquisitor, Psycannon
3 warriors--either heavy bolters, or two plasmaguns and a plasma cannon
3 alcolytes--carpace armor, bolter
The inquisitor will clearly just sit and shoot his psycannon.
The warriors also just shoot, will be armed with plasma against 3+ save armies, and Heavy bolters against horde armies.
The alcolytes have carpace armor so that my warriors can survive longer, and bolters because they are cheaper then helguns.
The two sages are there to twin link up a weapon.
The familar and mystics are just low point cannon fodder for once I take wounds.
You shouldn't have carapce armour on the acolytes, you'll have to remove 4+ save models if you suffer a wound. You want 6+ save models to die when you suffer a wound.
Otherwise it's looking good, put them in cover and smile everytime you remove a skull servitor when you fail a cover save.
-Auspex on the Inquisitor Lord, in case of sneaky foes.
-Drop the familiar, take another Sage. If one of your two Sages dies, you lose the reroll, hence wanting more Sages.
-Carapace armor isn't even IN the Daemonhunters Armoury, so you can't buy it for your Acolytes.
-I'd suggest one Plasma Cannon and two Heavy Bolters for the Warriors. Why not the Plasma Guns? You'd have two Rapid Fire 24" weapons and two Heavy 36" weapons in the same unit. You wouldn't get the most for your points that way. Oh, and that much plasma and you're bound to screw up more than the Sages can cover for you. This way you've got a great anti-infantry unit.
-You mention the Mystics being extra wounds - remember that their ability is rather handy for shooty units.
-Perhaps one Heirophant for the Ld bonus. Yes, I know a Lord has Ld10 already, but there are ways to decrease Ld (like Pariahs, etc), and the higher Ld is essential for a shooty unit, unless you want range to dictate target priority. I'd substitute him in for a Mystic, NOT for a Sage.
Carapace armor is in the wargear section, yes. It costs X points and confers a 4+ save to the wearer.
Oh? I don't see it anywhere. And yes, I know what it is, it just isn't in the Daemonhunters armoury.Carapace armor is in the wargear section, yes. It costs X points and confers a 4+ save to the wearer.
Carpace armor is the fourth one down in the wargear section. I wasn't even thinking about cover for me unit. My friends and I had only been using cover that blocks line of of sight for a while so we weren't getting many cover saves...not that we were shooting a lot (orks and nids). However the Auspex seems really worth it for it's point value, will certainly pick one up, and probably drop the carpace armor; will make picking up the plasma cannon seem much less costly.
Emp & nichodemus10: Do me a favor, check the year of your copies of the DH codex. Mine is 2003 (Product code 60 03 01 07 001), and doesn't include Carapace. The fourth item down is Consecrated Scrolls...

There actually WAS a reprint of the DH codex done a long time ago, not too long after the army was released. All it fixed was a few typoes, etc. Or at least, that's what GW advertised it as. If it added Carapace armor...
