I have never really been a fan of land raiders myself, so when is it actually worth it to take one?
I recently found out that the gaming store I work at still has the land raider conversion that myself and a friend built. We drilled holes in the sponsons and set up some pins so that you could turn it into either a crusader or a normal land raider with about 30 seconds of fiddling with it. I could probably get it back for pretty damn cheap, like maybe as low as 30 bucks, which isnt bad for a fully painted and assembled land raider.
Maybe a Land Raider tactica should be the next article, to describe when its actually worth using one, and how to do it.
Could you post a picture? I would be really interested (as probably other people) as to how you did this? It would help a lot of people out to be able to switch between LR's especially in about 30 seconds.
Sure, it is still at the gaming store, since I haven't made up my mind yet, but I can describe it.
Basically, iirc, you have to use the crusader as the base, because the normal land raider has one less top hole than the crusader, which means it wont have room for the guy with the multi-melta. You have a little armored cap that you stick in that hole when you are fielding it as a normal landraider.
We drilled very small little holes through the side of the land raider and both sets of side sponsons, and made sure they lined up just right when they were fully in. Then we just took a long metal pin for each side and used that to secure whichever sponson was in at the time. We attached a skull or something to the top of each long pin so they just look kind of like trophy displays or something. I'll borrow my GFs camera some time this week and take pictures if I can, but it wont be easy since im starting a third shift job tonight.
Sounds kinda complicated. How long did it take you to do this?
P.S.-Can't wait for the pics, sounds very interesting. (I'm considering using a LR in my list and being able to swap it for a LRC depending on who im playing would be a great advantage).
I couldn't tell you exactly how long it took, Scott did most of the actual drilling, I just helped with the planning and the original idea.
As far as I can tell Land Raiders are unpopular arround here and personaly I would never take them.
It's properties as an armoured destroyer and a Transport mean that when its doing 1 well the other is redundant. Plus at a quater of a 1000pt list it dies all to easily to on average 5 Broadside shots. Plus melta-guns make a mockery of its armour.
Predators give you more mang for your buck and altough I am not a Rhino fan, 5 of them with smoke launchers stand a better chance of gettingsomewhere than 1 Land Raider.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
I rarely use a landraider however they are very worth while having. I play in NJ, and i've noticed lots of people use the landraider basically as a battering ram/crusader delivery system for terminators. Works nicely.... lots of points... but nicely.

as an update, I went ahead and bought some of my stuff back including the converted land raider, i'll take it over to my girlfriends house tomorrow hopefully and we'll take some pictures of it to show where the holes were drilled.
