    Raven Guard Drop Pods

Do raven guard drop pods take up FA slots? That wouldn't make sense, because Raven Guard fluff says that they specialize in the use of things like drop pods to attack the enemy and stuff. Plus the last raven guard army (WD) had special rules about that, showing the raven guard perference of Drop pods. So do they take up FA slots for teh ravens?

Remember fluff has no bearing on the actual rules, try not to use that to justify things

So yeah RG has to use a FA slot to use a drop pod. Sucks, but you could always take different traits and all you'd lose is Shrike

Shrike is the reason I want Raven Guard. I think lightning claws look really cool and stuff. I just wish that the drawback was the few bikes one instead.

Don't get so bummed out, dude. You could just use every Fast Attack slot exclusively for drop pods and not use Land Speeders or any other Fast Attack option besides drop pods. You can save your Assault squads for your Elite slots and stock up on Tactical and Scout squads. It would still fit in with Raven Guard fluff, and that's really all that matters. Alternatively, you could just make use of the Drop Pod Assault special rules very often. That fits in as well.

Thnx. Good point. I want to use the drop pods rules a lot, and I was planning on using mostly elite assault squads anyways, so I guess it doesn't matter too much... except I only get 3 drop pods.. >< But then again, Command squad, devs, and maybe a tact squad... I don't really need to much to ds with all those nice assault squads...

OK, let me cover a few things here. Firstly, you don't really need a Command Squad. Since you play Raven Guard, you should give any HQ choice you pick up a jump pack. Shrike may be cool, but I personally don't like special characters. I'd rather go for a customized Master.

Secondly, a single Elite Assault Squad costs 250 points before you upgrade at all, so you're looking at a squad of 290 points minimum. That can eat up points fast. Thirdly, you should beef up on Scouts. Raven Guard get more milage out of the Tenth Company than any other chapter. If you play Raven Guard you should be building two different Companies: a Battle Company and the Scout Company.

Third, if you take no more than three power-armored squads without jump packs, drop pod usage is perfectly viable. There are at least two people on this board who offer drop pod templates, and a search should uncover them both in no time.

People may frown on this as being ineffective in game, but don't listen to them. This is fluffy for Raven Guard, and that is what counts.
