After reading the new IG codex and seeing the new cadian models i think im gonna start an army. i was just wondering what someone might recommend about an army list. i have seen 2 lists on the games workshop site, one is based on massed infantry and the other on tanks, which would you recommend? or if you have an opinion that'll help out its much appreciated.

Well Grand Master Seth, it really comes down to your own personal preference. If you are a treadhead and believe tanks are gods gift to man then follow that path. Conversly, if you love infantry and think that a glorious charge in the name of the immortal Emperor of mankind is the way to go, then field infantry. Its really as simple as using what you like the most and having fun.

Personally i like tanks, and i find them very effective as they can take on almost any army and win. Infantry are weaker than tanks points-wise with regard to their damage output vs most targets, but 30+ troopers can put a big hole in anything they want in my experience. Infantry armies can also field ALOT of guns in the Heavy Weapons Teams, dont forget that.

I could give you more accurate advise if you threw in some more detail about who you might be playing, how often, point size of the games, and how often you will play the same people etc. For instance, if you play at a Games Workshop vs a different person each week, then a huge infantry based army will surprise most players as they will EXPECT TANKS. All anti-tank weapons and such that they take will be wasted on guardsmen where a heavy bolter would do the job much more effectively at half the points cost.

I personally recommend tanks only because i think they are cool, though infantry are equally effective in the long run. Just go with what you like Seth!

I LOVE TANKS, i love big guns in general and you cant get a bigger than a tank gun! I think if you took 1500 points of solely troops and the same of tanks, the troops would last longer but the tanks would do more damage. With tanks you really have to attack from the off, with troops you have time. A single shot can kill a tank but generally you need 30 shots to kill an entire squad(not including ordnance). One lucky hit can kill a tank whereas you need 10 lucky shots to kill a squad. Whereas a tank can take out an entire squad in one shot whereas a group of guardsmen can take 3 turns to kill the same squad. So it really comes down to what you prefer, mass infantry or tracked mayhem. ME i prefer tracked mayhem! Vroom Vroom, BANG BANG!

Well i think a nice balence is great. One having chimeras give armored protection and is very moble for a army that sucks at moving. Two you have better chances of winning being a balenced force and to me its more enjoyable. Remember tanks are number one targets. If you are going to spend 160+ pts on a tank you better make the most of it cause three twin linked lascannons are IG's tanks nightmare and Ive seen it donr and donr over and over again.
