    Callidus assasin-neural shredder question

The codex states that the neural shredder has a strength of 8 but as we all know we roll to wounds based on leadership value. If I cause a wound on T4 2-wound model is it insta-killed by the neuro shredder? or since we use the leaderhsip values for to wound it just takes a wound.

I think its only ld, not toughness but I could be wrong.

Man this is a toughie

But I'm willing to believe that its against LD as toughness is waved when detrimining wounding and it already was AP 1 so insta kill in addition would be kinda cheap.

You use Ld in toughness' place, as you said above. So no, you can't insta-kill based on a model's toughness because the toughness isn't even looked at for the Shredder.

Although that raises the question as to whether you can insta-kill models with Ld4 or less with the Neural Shredder. Not that those are exactly common in 40K...

Yeah i think you are right. i actually played yesterday (tau...i hate tau) and i followed the LD line of thought but one of the GW guys thought i was wrong and said that i instakilled the broadside. an arguement ensued between the tau player and the GW guy. I settled it by saying its only one wound not instakill. That one broadside (which i could not kill in CC!) cost me 1000 points of victory points in a cleanse mission and turned my slaughter into a tie (actually he had 150 points more than me in a 2000 pt game). Nevertheless i think we are right on this anyway.

    Uh, you absolutely instakill.

'Roll to wound as follows: the neural shredder has strength 8 but, rather than using the targets' toughness values, their leadership is used. Other than this, the to wound chart is used as normal.'

The only thing leadership affects is how hard it is to wound them, you still go off of toughness to determine isntakill.

Yeah it states the LD is only used to determine the wound itself so therefore for terms of insta kill it goes from the T.

whoa!...this is interesting. i've been playing no instakill since i started GK but obviously i havent mastered the english language. The GW employee was trying to point this out as well. He was still making his case today claiming i won because i got this wrong, but i kept ignoring him today until i read the codex again...still it is sort of vague on this

No where does it say leadership counts as toughness only that you roll against it to see if you wound. So I believe you instantly kill anything of toughness 4 or less. Kind of like witch blades in a way.

think about it. the shredder is frying into the person's brain and trying to make it practically explode. exploding brains are a tad bit more than one wound, so it'd make alot of sense. it also helps capitalize on the sense of 'anti HQ/elite' thing.
