Okay, I here some people who play one of the Big 4 chapters are using traits.
My questions are:
1. How do non big 4 chapter players feel about this?
2. How do non space marine players feel about this?
3. How do Big 4 chapter players who do not use traits feel about this?
4. Is this legal? I mean Dark Angels already have stuff like stubborn, No allies, Blood Angels have death comany, Furios charge ect.
Qui est Mortis? Lol, the rep... neggatized for something... lol that nobody payed attention too... Lol Goodbye all, BTW This is permanent goodbye so save some bandwidth mods delete this account :D  :D  :D
Well, I have mixed feelings about the whole idea. This came up on B&C a while back, about a DA player who used traits in a tourney because he said that C: DA was Codex: Space Marines, or something, and the tourney organizer got sick of him whining and finally let him use them. And of course, he won.
But on the same note, non-codex chapters got smacked around pretty hard recently. BA lost all of their special vehicle-related abilities, or they got nerfed ala overcharged engines. True Grit is now lack-luster, and acute senses is an ability I can't believe my SW are actually paying for. DA are more Codex and uninteresting than ever. Further, now that Rhinos are little more than steel coffins, CC-based SM forces have a hard time.
If it's okay and approved of in your gaming group, I say go for it, but don't abuse it. Just take one trait to put a little of the "oomph" back into the big THREE , until they get their stuff redone. I don't recognize BT as part of the big three/four. They aren't a first-founding, and are only getting a codex through popularity. Besides, with Vows, they don't need traits.
Then again though, you can pretty much tell which chapters will take which.
BA - Take The Fight To Them (Isn't it just a little scary to have BA running around with bp/ccw and furious charge?)
DA - Trust Your Battle Brothers (Stand. Shoot. Counter-Charge.)
SW - This one isn't so clear. But, if it applied to their "basic troop choices" instead of tactical squads, probably the infiltrate one.
It's not legal by GW rules, and can be abused by powergamers. But, i'm sure some gaming circles would see the "Big Three" as underpowered, while others would think they're balanced/cheese masters.

It says very specifically that the big 4 chapters do not use the trait system and instead use their own special rules
Again, they ignore the trait rules in the SM codex. Of course someone can make a tournament banning them and forcing BA, DA, SW and BT to be vanilla marines but really what is the point of that? That'd be a bit silly
I stick to offical rules because imo its pointless to adopt such extreme house rules. What if a new player comes in? You expect others to obey wacky rules? Good luck heh
Unbelievable, talk about fair-weather friends! Sounds to me like those people where just playing big 4 for the tasty special rules. Tough luck for them, unless they repaint their shoulder pads.

People who are using the traits and they collect one of the big 4 arent following the rules.I think its pretty stupid and unfair and it shouldnt be done at all.
Its a shame that certain chapters cannot use the traits but in a way its fair.No it isnt legal and Blood Angels have furious charge thats the why we cannot use any of the traits not becuase we have units like DC and Baals etc..
I really hate it when people are haxxing and trixing with the trait system, it was designed for one purpose: To enable people to create their own chapter! They are not there to enable you to make the most powerful version of a space marine army possible, nor to switch between games depending on who is your opponent... it makes me sad that this is abused all the time, since i am a fluff-freak...
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
I play Black Templars, and they seem all right to me with the new codex. They are now (with the DA becoming vanilla, the SW having weak charcters and the BA's dead rhino rush) I think the strongest of the Big 4, and iwm just fine with that ...
On a more general note, people that take traits for their Big 4 armies are just win hungry power gamers, and they should be shot on site (with lascannons)...
The whole thing depends upon whether they are using the trait system as well as the codex special rules.
If you were playing Dark Angels using the trait system and only the trait system, there is nothing illegal about it. The fact that your army is painted Dark Green and has the name Dark Angels doesn't make it illegal to use the trait system.
Some players might not like it fluffwise, but it's not illegal.
Using the trait system to enhance upon the DA codex rules is completely illegal. Same goes for Space Wolves, Blood Angels etc.
