im painting up an ultramarines dreadnought...and im trying to decide what to name it. also, the box model has the word FEROX etched on the sarcouphogus' front plate banner, is this where the name is painted?
any help would be appreciated, as im no ultramarine expert. i just happened to have a dreadnought, and decided to paint him as an ultramarine (for some reason??)
If you want to name the dread. and then paint the name on it you can put it where ever you want. There is no "designated" place for the dreads. name.
You don't even have to give it a name. But if you do then just put it anywhere sensible, usually on the front or where there is a banner, plate, etc. aticking out. If you want to know a name then try to use something Latin. Get a Latin word or name, change it a bit so it sounds like high-gothic, and use it. Really just use something you like the sound of. Also if you find it hard painting the letters at such detail just use a pen.
"DICE FOR THE DICE GOD!"
And the almighty Dice God said to his followers "Thou shalt not speak ye words "anything but a one" For thou whoever'st speaketh this blasphemy will be cursed with thy rolls being of one".
Actually, I'd use an ancient Greek name. The Ultramarines are bacically Space Greeks.
thanks for the input
space greeks LMAO
Hehe, you're gonna get a lot of people upset by saying that...
I say they had more a classical influence, but you're basically right. Just name it gothic and scary, like...
As a player of the Ultramarines for the last 10 years, I'd say their names are generally based on a mixture of some Greek but mostly Roman influence, so anything along those lines would be my recommendation.
As for the placing of the name, it really is up to you. Dreadnoughts represent some of the oldest warriors of the chapter, some of them are even know to date back to the days of the Space Marine Legions, so I think it's safe to say that they'll put their name where they damn well want it and which of you young whippersnappers is gonna tell me different?
I didn't mean to offend any Greeks by saying that. Are there any Greeks on here? It's one of those things you just never talk about on Forums, isn't it?
By the way, that Dread looks sweet.
Ultramarines are classical, not greek or roman :p
Anyway, any name that sounds latinish (high gothic) will do. The name should be painted on the sarcophagus since that's where the ancient warrior lies. You'd want your name on your tombstone right? Not on the flowerpot in front of it...It hardly matters since we're talking about ancient greeks, I hardly think anyone can trace their lineage that far back...Originally Posted by Cap'n Jack
