having just bought a bunch of DH off my brother i was wondering if anyone had the pleasure of dealing with a khorne army recently. it seems really hard to be able to take them out with DH (and yes i realise they were supposed to be able to take out chaos easily)
it seems to me that the last thing anyone would want is to give bloodletters sustained assault.
but what really bothers me is that i don't think i could ever do enough damage to them.
beserkers with furious charge have a very good chance of killing my PAGK or even termies before they get a chance to hit back. (stupid chain axes) the damn things will get to hit first, they're likely to get the charge and they're at +1 to strength with about 4 attacks each.
on to bloodletters.
these will often appear without me even getting a chance to shoot at them, sure they're at lower leadership but they have a ridiculous amount of S5 power weapon attacks, although they are hitting at the same time.
lastly, how about a dp? he is easily a match for a grandmaster who is most likey unable to one-shot him with a force weapon and may even be weilding a dread axe. he would take a couple of wounds, (1-2 at most), cut through the GM then proceed to eat a GK squad.
it seems that unless you specifically tailor your army to take out khorne then they easily have the upper hand.
how would you deal with a khorne army?
If possible the best way to kill khorne is to lure them into the open and shoot them to pieces. As khorne have to charge if someone is in range, the easiest way is to move a small tempting unit in range, let them charge and slaughter this small unit. They then have to get to you under fire from all types of fun weapons.
I hope this helps
Imperial Guard allies.
Need I say more?
Really, though. If you're worried about getting beaten in CC, don't get into CC!!!!!
Grab some Imperial Guard allies and you'll be set. You have the meat to throw at them. Throw a squad of ten guys for very little points, get them butchered (out in the open, preferably) then let loose with all the beautiful guns a combined force of DH and IG can muster together. Can we say, overkill?
As for the demons you're so worried about, tie them up with....you guessed it, IG! These guys are expendable troops. So spend them! Throw them at the enemy to slow him down, and get yourself the shots you need to weaken him enough so you can mop up in CC. Use the IG as a meatshield, as a distraction, as the big guns, and then mop up the rest with your uber-cool anti-Daemon CC crazy silver-armoured Space Marines!
Hope that rant helps?
In this case i would defenitely take 2 fully loaded LR/LRC since Khorne wont be able to deal with that kind of armour (the bloodthirster maybe). And as a bonus you will get the charge....
btw: Dreads do great against Bloodletters....

You're saying...500+ points of tank, plus however-much-too-many points for...10? 12? 14? GKT???
I think the assumption that "Khorne won't be able to deal with that kind of armour" is too big of an assumption to "fully load" that kind of armour. If that Khorne player could deal with that armour, in any way possible, he'd make it a top priority and I don't know if that Land Raider/Crusader will see much use. Which then leaves a bunch of Terminators just sitting in the open!
I still say IG, but that's a difference of opinion, and while I respect your's I do disagree with it. ^_^
The problem with that is all the player need do is take a daemon price with daemonic stature and flight and he will rip those Land Raiders to pieces.
A good Khornate Daemon lord would have the following:
Mark of Khorne
Feel no Pain
Therefore 6 str 6, I6 power weapon attacks on the charge 2+ Armour, 4+ Invulnerable save and a 4+ feel no pain save!!!
Of course this is an extreme example, but he would rip a Land Raider in 2!!!
Monsterous creature, therfore I believe he gets 2D6 plus strength for armour penertration, or at least thats what I thought, tell me if i'm wrong.
bringing landraiders would mean i'd be tailoring my army to fight khorne which i'm avoiding.
i like the IG idea but it was more of a rhetorical question on how DH are supposed to deal with khorne.
eventually (ie after i finish my other armies) i'll bulk this one out with IG, but from watching battles involving DH and Khorne (not fighting each other though) i was wondering exactly how a pure DH army was supposed to deal with them. you know, being designed to take out chaos and all...
edit. also a DP would probably tear a land raider apart, well at least every time my tyrant has gone up against AV 14 he's done it and they've got similar stats.
I believe you're correct, and in that case he does have a chance of taking out a Land Raider.Originally Posted by gingerninja
I honestly think that two fully loaded Land Raiders/Crusaders with GKT in them is completely wasteful and a horrible strategy. If he can't beat them in CC, why have LR/C's whose main point is to get those Termies into CC?
I agree with the strategy of luring them into the open with a small, point-light squad, then blasting them to bits. And there is no better combination for that than IG allied with your DH. Except, maybe, Tau...but Tau can't ally with DH, and their troops aren't as expendable as IG troops are.
EDIT: Tzar, I believe what the point is of my suggesting IG, etc. is simply that, it seems like to me, pure DH will have trouble defeating Khorne. Not an impossibility, as nothing in 40k really is, but it seems to me like they'd have a rough time. Both are mostly CC-oriented, it just happens that Khorne is a tad bit nastier in CC. When something beats you in CC, you need to turn around and shoot it, and DH doesn't have the abundance of guns, nor all the right types of guns, to shoot the crap out of a CC army that probably outnumbers you.
