Well, here goes with this. I have always loved the character of the librarians. And now, after having found an official answer to the question (Attatching Multiple Librarians), I am finally able to indulge in my numbers of librarians.
SO a couple of questions, but first a quick addendum of how I play my librarians.
1) In a Command Squad with Furious Assault (Str 5 allows them to wound toughness 8 models, I.E. Wraithlord)
2) Backed with full tricked out command squad. Including stadard bearer, BP and CCW load out. WIth a Melta gunt hrown in for the almost sure kill of charging and firing, or incase they get close to any armor.
3) Epistolary (3 wound) W/ Force Weapon, BP, Combat Shield, Familiar (So Init. 7 on charge), Term Honours, Psyker Powers Veil of Time and Might of Heroes.
This load out has given him lots of backing with power weapons/fists. And lots of...umm, Heroic SPace Marines to throw themselves in fornt of their Librarian Cmmander. However this is a bit expensive. SOme of you will question the load out. I find that Veil of time most often is a much better buy than artificer armor as it will give me a chance to reroll those failed 3+ saves. And my Iron Halo goes to my Captain, unless I only use the one HQ.
BUT I want for character and how much I love building and converting SM Librarians to attach a Codecier to his squad. THis gets pricey, however my idea is to remove the specialists of the command squad other htna a vet sergeant with a Power Fist. This will give me still an impressive...
10 Force Weapon Attacks (12 on the charge) at Initiative 6 (7 on the charge), and Str5 ont he charge round of assault)
3 Power fist attacks (4 on the charge)
With Two casts of Might of Heros (A possible +6 attacks tot he power weilding members of the squad.)
This to me, seems to be a FAR Better investment both characterwise and points wise.
What would you all think of-
a) Fielding htis unit yourselves
b)Playing against this unit
c) CHanges you might make
d) Validity of this unit
I honestly would liek ot know your reactions, as I like ot avoid anger when I sit down to a table.
Semper Fidelus Imperitoris
Its codex allowable and I dont see a reason to not play against you. I'd love to drop a pie plate on that unit and watch the points go bye-bye, but thats just me. I think its very point heavy for a single unit, but allso think it could do some serious damage to an unprepared opponent.
breath, sight, squeeze.
now double tap just for grins
and Another One bite's the dust.
A bolter round for all that oppose the Emperor.
That'd carve a nice chunk into their lines...I'd highly suggest it against anything that has difficulty amasing pieplates...Taking it vs Guard = HUGE no-no...Vs Other marines..it'd be alright. Vs orks/necrons/tau/eldar...You should be alright.
As long as you don't end up eating pieplates you'll be alright.
yeah thats a dam good and power full unit but they are footslogers so they are gonna get shot to hell and there is only a 50/50 chance that they charge. not to mention its all good until i charge you with my death comp and chaplians with jumppack or my friend throws down a few pie plates at you or until some one send in 100 odd guants or orcs its all good until then. just be carefull with them its easy to make a unti that can cain but its also resy for them to just get beaten

TAU suck, Blood angels rule
A - I dont like expensive HQ sections so I probably would not field it. I think there are far cheaper things than this HQ choice that stand a decent chance of knocking it down; just a playing style preference.
B - I wouldn't mind playing against it. Very powerful squad in the right situation, but vulnerable and a big points cost. It probably will have the "What the $%^& is that?" effect on people, and you may see a mouth drop open, but I suspect most people will realize that it is a legal unit.
C - Figure out a way to get them to the enemy fast before they attract too much attention. Thats the key to all (especially expensive) CC units.
D - Its good.
I'll address these one at a time. Just be warned I like a fluffy HQ choice over a min-maxed one. Since you like Librarians so much, I'm not going to stop ya. It's your army's fluff and your army.Originally Posted by Faust_Vermillion
- I would field it just because it looks like it would be fun to model and play. I rarely ever see this type of build on any independent character here.
- Oh, hells yeah. I'd love to play against it. Hell, I'd even bring a Librarian or two of my own and we could have a mage war.
- First, I'd swap the bolt pistol for a plasma pistol because a its basically putting dregs on a Librarian/Chaplain/Master. It's like he was the last one in line to pick a weapon and everyone else beat him to the plasma pistols. Plasma is much fluffier (unless your army's fluff dictates otherwise). Secondly, I'd get a Land Raider Crusader to get this unit stuck in close combat quickly.
- It's valid because it seems to be very fluffy and characterful. I'd love to know how this would do against Ulthwe or Thousand Sons (both magic-heavy armies). I say go for it.
Hmm... I'm getting ideas here. I like a characterful army more than a min-maxed one, and you seem to be leaning in that direction as well. Just do it, man. Work that warp!
Victorus aut mortis,
Well, it's certainly...intimidating. No invul. save, though, so you'd be screwed by low-AP shooting and any squad with power weapons would prove a problem. I firmly believe every HW needs an invulnerable; that's probably because I play Eldar a lot, though, and they have buckets of power weapons.
It would be awesome if you get the charge and get into combat without being shot to pieces. Get a transport. A Land Raider. A drop pod. A freakin' rhino. Get something, because I would not risk this guy footslogging across the board. He costs more than a tricked-out GK Grand Master.
As people have said, it is allowable, I have no problem playing against it, and I would not take it myself, those last 2 are linked, it is just too many eggs (points) in one very slow and tempting basket. But if you feel you ccan get your points worth, go for it
Occasionaly I use multiple Librariens myself. Im a big fan of deepstriking a termie command squad and a Lib with FotD. Ive tried multiple Libs with that power twice now. To devastating effect I might add. 3 codiciers and a termi command squad WILL cause everything within 12" to flee. Its actually quite funny. I highlly recommend it. Its gets very heavy on points, but is well worth it, especially when playing against static armies like Tau or IG.
My second multi lib config that I like, and sometimes combine with the FotD (although it makes the squad rediculously expensive) is FotA. Because of its pinning effects and the fact that it can hit so many units, you have a real chance of pinning a large part of your oponents army. If the deepstrike works well, you can have all three of the flame elementals shot along the same path to be sure you get the necessary hits to pin the squads. A drop pod often helps with this as it allows for a 2" deployment to compensate any deviation of the pod.
As to your little loadout there, I would definately find a way to give them invulnerable saves. As has been pointed out, this squad SCREAMS shoot me with ap 2/3 weapons. Would be a shame to lose something so expensive to a single large blast template. Unfortunately the only way to give them all invulnerable saves is terminator armor.
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
I think you would do great in cc but I also don't think that I would let it get across the board at all. You have to give them some wheels or treads to get them to the enemy lines fast or there isn't going to be much left of them when they get there.
