does anyone play a guard army themed around the adeptus mechanicus? or however you spell it. not nessissarily with the cyber enhancement doctrine.
"That is the sound of inevitability"
Hi, ok, basically there are elements of the guard which are generally associatd with Adeptus Machinus, these are th Skitarii regiments, at least one post, about a year ago, was from someone thinking of doing just such a regiment.
There is various amounts of fluff on Skitarii including some stuff in =][= fluff around the Cirian legecy, but basically they are used by EM and accordingly have a high proportion of bionics and obvious access to machina (been playing too mych Final Fantasy)
The problem on the table top is is it really worth the points for a 6+ inv save when they cost so little in the first place?
Such a list would be fullfy main IMO, and could include an inquistor with servitor retenue and the like, with lots of heavy bolters and lascannons.
doctrines could be:
Grenadiers or STs
Iron discipline (represent the mecanical will type of thing)
and even carapace armour
I'm working on an AM themed army but it's not a skitarii regiment. It's themed around an Adeptus Mechanicus archeological expedition aimed at recovering lost technology and planets with mining potential. About half the army is regular guard (cadian models in desert fatigues) that are working for the tech-priests, the rest is a HW-platoon (servitors) a sentinel squadron (heavy servitors/praetorians?), enginseers (of course! =) etc.
I could quite easily have done the guard elements in AM colours to get a "pure" army but I want to be able to ally them with inquisitional forces and such without it looking strange.
I use sharpshooters on the servitor heavy weapons platoon and hardened fighters on the heavy servitors to represent their augmentations though admittedly I'm building it mostly for looks. If you really wanted a pure AM army I recomment looking into the Abhuman doctrines in WD (UK version at least). The mutant doctrine for example makes infantry squads slower, gives them an invulnerable save (4+ I think!) and lets them move and fire heavy weapons.
I played this way for a while with Servitors, Techpriests etc. I loved the fluff, but I found out:
Techpriests are very cool models, but are not worth the points.
servitors should not count against the 50pts limit for wargear.
The only effective wat to use Techpriest and Servitors is to park your Bassie with indirect fire right behind your regular russ, and have a Techpriest with 4 tech Servitors right in the middle in base to base with both vehicles. Both vehicles can be fixed on a 2+.
