I want to start off by saying I am not a power gamer, I enjoy balanced armys/ forces that can handle diffirent races in Warhammer 40k.
I am currently starting a Armored Company and I just want to know what every one thinks about the tread head army.
Here are a few questions I have about the Armored Company.
1) Are they for power gamers only? Can you have a balanced force that can take on multipile races and not get creamed? I know if some one gets wind that they are facing a AC they will tool their army for tank hunting. So some tatics for taking out tank hunters would be nice.
2) Should I take a varity of tank or just stick to the plain jane Leman Russ?
3) What is your oppion on the Armored Company? Do you think they are cheese or fun to play?
On a note that might help you with my organisation of my tank list, I currently have; 1 Leman Russ with lascannon and side h.bolters, 1 Leman Russ Exterminator with h.bolters all around, 1 Hellhound, 1 Chimera with attached Armored fist squad, 1 Sentinel Armageddon pattern.
Thank you for your time
The guilty laugh while the innocent suffer.............WELL WHO'S LAUGHING NOW!!!
Armored Company is not a powergaming list-it's actually very easy to beat, if you know it's coming.
As for your list, I'd recommend at least 1 more Russ and a Vanquisher for your HQ.
Burn the land and boil the sea. You can't take the sky from me.
Member of the Canadian Clan, eh.
Mech Tau Cadre: 2000 points, needs paint and magnets.
Paladins of Avalon (SW):-1500 points, needs paint.
Im not into powergaming but sometimes you just have to use an armoured company. Might start one soon, mainly for fluff becuse id make them a death korp of kreig panzer company. Have you checked the armoured company tanks, there some good ones there.
By day he fought with sword and shield.....
By night he fought with pen and parchment.....

Fear the ANZAC Clan!!!!!
ORDER OF THE SHADOWY FLAME!!!
Do you have uber micro...????
Armoured ccompany is fine, they just have a habit of winning big or losing big. that's why people fear them.
remember, it's not always about the battlecannon, when you play. exterminators are very good, and you can move and fire all weapons. conquerors too are nice for some oopfh on the move. for some thing different, try a moving armoured company, with the Russ variants i've mentioned, chimeras stuffed with ST with meltas/plasmas, and destroyer tank hunters. no one will be expecting an armoured company to come to them.
of course, the standard tank companies i face usually are all normal leman Russes, with Demolisher as HQ, to put BS 4 on those mean plasma cannons...plus the chimeraes with ST in them.
As an Armoured Company player I have to say that they used to be fair, but I think they are a bit unfair now. The old rules included a an AC only rule called Lucky Glance. Any ST 4 or above weapon could get a lucky glance in the same manner that Necrons can glance with any weapon in their arsenal.
When they took this rule out in the latest printing, it cause AC to be unbalanced. The main reason why is because it's not really a balanced list. If your opponent doesn't know you are using this list, then he may only have very little anti tank stuff in his list, which will render most of his units useless. I don't know about anyone else but I don't like having units that are completely useless. Not really for power gamers only. Some people, like me, just really like tanks and that's the primary reason they have an Armoured Company. Yes, it can definitely take on all lists in the game fairly equally, unless of course, your opponent knows that you are bringing and Armoured Company. Then they can load up on AT weapons and blow you clean out of the water.1) Are they for power gamers only? Can you have a balanced force that can take on multipile races and not get creamed? I know if some one gets wind that they are facing a AC they will tool their army for tank hunting. So some tatics for taking out tank hunters would be nice.I would give your Tank Aces the Vanquisher tanks, since they have a good BS and Vanquishers need to roll to hit. Then I would take normal Leman Russ tanks as your troop choices. Lastly, I nearly always tuck in a couple of Exterminators (Usually my two command tanks) because they are really good for shooting at most infantry and can move and shoot with relative ease over other tanks.2) Should I take a varity of tank or just stick to the plain jane Leman Russ? It's definitely fun to play, but not always fun to play against. I don't think I would really call them cheese. Like I said, I think they are bit unfair now, but not really to the point of being cheesy. Most balanced army lists out there could take them on if they had a few lucky shots.3) What is your oppion on the Armored Company? Do you think they are cheese or fun to play?
I've found out that armoured Cy armies get old really fast: it's great to have 8 tanks and go "vroom-vroom-Badooom-dakka-dakka" for a few games, but the tactical aspect of the list is not very interesting.
Now, I tend to play them in large games, as a 2nd army.
For example, when my brother and I both play our 2000pts of regular IG (that's 4000pts), we'll often use a 3rd list of armored company for flank attacks, counter attacks, or such things. Such large games are scenarii anyway, and our opponents know what they'll fight.
My friend is starting an armored company and is trying as hard as he can to figure out how to deal with my nid raveners combo with spore mine screening so yeah, armored companies are good, but they have definate weaknesses that can be exploited if any one knows that they are coming.

You dare insult the strategic might of the 1,488th Kriegian Armored Regiment!!! My plasma Executioner and the rolling battle Juggernaught, "Our Lady of the Blessed Gatling-Mega Bolter," will be brought to bear upon your piddly Anti-armour!
I really enjoy adding the FW tanks to my army. The Conquerers are good "all around" tanks for the flexible army. The laser destroyer tank hunter is good anti high point model firepower and Bombard will make most hoard armies crap themselves. And Stygies pattern Vanquishers look dang cool.
*Fart* "Keep talking sir, we'll find you!"
I play an armoured company list that fluff wise is supposed to be a skitari cataphractii regement, and I was kinda in the mood to go all tankies so I went with vanquishers, battle tanks, and demolishers. doctrine wise (wich makes my tanks quite expensive) I went with forge crafted, crush and grind, and other doctrines that made my tanks more variable. Personally I think Armoured companies have gotten a bad rep overall as people think by bringing a supposedly "untactical, compensating, armour list of doom" you are just trying to be a cheesy player (although cheese is still likely to be disputed), mostly as with the tournaments that I have seen that have contained armoured companies from the old editions have gone with incredbly cheesy lists like nine bassies for 1000pts or so and claimed it was balanced because a lasgun could glance them if it rolled three sixes in a row. Such things are not really fun to play with or agaisnt as all you did was sit and shoot and kill stuff with your 9+ pie-plates.
Personally the average idea of an armoured company sitting and shooting tends not to work out so well as a standard gaurd army in a fire fight, I have found it much more effective if you use your tanks in an offensive position. Personaly I dont believe armoured company is cheesy, nor do I think that it is soly for power gamers, and finally I think the plain old leman russ can be quite initmidating when you can throw three or four of them out there with even scarier ordinance, much more scary than trully effective but atleast it works.
