Playing Space Wolves, I don't usually use Terminators. They simply aren't cost efficient in an already points-expensive army. However, I really like the Deathwing army, and an all terminator force appeals to me. Of course, as a wolf player, I would never degrade myself by playing a DA army, but an alternative popped into my head. An all Wolf Guard/Termy army list. Shamefully, to play at a store I will have to use the Deathwing list with different names for items and squads, but that's not to much of a hassle. The idea behind this would be Logan's entire personal bodyguard, the only flaw being Logan Grimnar is not available in the DW list, obviously. All the possible wolf conversions of plastic Terminators.... *drool*
Yes, that is just an excuse for me to convert dozens of Terminators.
Post whatcha think.
Could be good, and as a Wolves player I like it, but other chapters would be asking why they can't too? But who cares? Other chapters stole our Ven. Dread. :p
I like the idea, but it'd points heavy in an army where points are already ridiculously too high.
Rules wise i think it is all wacked and weird but modelling wise i think it would be a joy to convert and would look really sweet on the table top when its all finished. Are you going to paint them SW colours or DW colours?Because if you paint them SW colours and model them like SW its going to be weird using them as DW if that is what you want to do.
Don't Space Wolves have limited Terminator suits spread throughout the clan companies? if so I dont see them assembling a force of all Terminators.
A huge Termie Wolf Guard bodyguard would be cool however.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Only the Wolf Guard and HQ can wear termie armor, and there is a limited number of wolf guard you can take in an army. Also your army has to consist of at least 2 troops, one of which being Grey Hunters.Originally Posted by Wings of Doom
Fluff wise, since Logan is in termie armor, I don't see problem with an elite guard (company) with nothing but termies (and dread) however the catch 22 is DW doesn't have Logan and SW don't have the DW list.
It would be very un-space-wolves-ish. You would have to be bothered with rules like stubborn and Hunting the Fallen, and all you can take is Terminators, dreads and Land Raiders.
If you were really desperate, and you wanted Logan Grimnar, you could have a Master wih Terminator armour, Sword of secrets (as the axe), storm bolter and adamantine mantle of something.
Of course, in WYSIWYG games, they would probably object to using Wolf Guard models as deathwing, so you would have to buy the deathwing blisters and paint them as Space Wolves.
Oh, and a good sized Deathwing army costs about 400 dollars, so that would be a problem.
As long as the model has the same weapon as what he would take in the deathwing list, WYSIWYG it satisfied. Color scheme and the wolfy theme do not affect the WYSIWYG rules.... HOWEVER since they are using the chapter rules of DW they are not Space Wolves. It a tourney was running and had fluff points being taken, that would get the big goose-egg. I myself consider using a different armies codex simply because I like there rules better by trying to maintain another chapter is the worst sort of cheese possible.Originally Posted by Ezekiel1990
Create a divergent chapter (same rules though) from the deathwing who have a very feral aspect to them
Come up with one hell of a story explaining an alliance in which training has taken place.
Sounds cool and would definitely be a good conversion idea, however, any one space wolf army is only allowed to have 0-20 Wolf Guard total. Also, they are the only ones who are allowed to take any type of equipment from the armory, as they serve the dual role of bodyguard to HQ units as well as veteran sergeants to the normal squads. I dont know how viable this would be as a space wolf/DW playable army. Would make a pretty cool display set though.
Answering your question, I think you are crazy....
In all honesty, I don't like termies much becaues it doesn't take much to bring them down. Maybe that is because I pack my army with Laz, Plaz, and Meltaz? But if you are big fan of the models and know how to play them well then go ahead! Just make sure to incorporate lots of ass cannons.
It is farfetched, but some of you don't seemt o be getting that I couldn't use the SW list anyway. I'd have to use the DeathWing list. I'm thinking I'll just keep adding to my already large SW force for awhile. IT ISN'T BIG ENOUGH YET.
