I'm just about to get another combat squad for my Angels Incarnite carmy and I was wondering what heavy weapon i should get in the squad. I'm normally going to be up against a Chaos army that has 1 Obliterator, sometimes a Defiler, and 2 mixed squads of troops plus a lord. I also frequently go up against Necrons and Dark Eldar. With that in mind I can't decide what heavy weapon to include in the squad that would be best suited to take out or at least hurt my regular opponents. I allready have a combat squad with a HB so I'm left to decide between Plasma Cannon, Melta Gun, Lascannon, or another heavy bolter. Please let me know what would be best. Thanks guys!

Obliterators, Chaos Lords, Necrons.. The Plasma Cannon seems the best choice here then. It can churn through all of them. Plus its strong enough to deal with light Dark Eldar vehicles and the Talos. It CAN also destroy the defiler, but that will be harder. All in all, it seems the right choice to me. but then again, I do love plasma... Mmm... plasma.
The Imperial Guard is like a punchbag - No matter how hard you hit it, it'll always be ready for a fight.
Vcitory for the Imperial Guard comes about through the sacrifice of our men, not through the cowardly survival tricks of other armies.
plasma does sound like the best all-around choice. it also wouldent hurt to get a lasconnon and when playing ledar let the HB tkae out troops. the lascannon could punch through the defile. i would go lascannon or plasma as stated before
Yes, the plasma cannon is mighty indeed, and after a few battles your enemies will fear it...
But, if you think you lack anti-tank power, go with the lascannon or missile luancher...
I would probably go with the plasma, but as stated before a lascannon would be useful.
One Shot, One Kill
from your opponents point of view, (Chaos and Eldar).... Plasma cannon, useful against everything in a way, and its very feared by opponents.

I take exception to the plasma cannon advice everyone is giving. Take a LASCANNON because of it's tank-busting potential and ability to instant kill those frightful characters. if you only get one shot, better make it count, so its a good compliment to heavy bolters. Enough bolters and heavy bolters will kill enemy troops, even those with a 3+ save. If you really want plasma, a plasma GUN is better than the Cannon in tactical squads.
although, the best tactical squad is to go for a lascannon and a plasma gun, this gives u power for just about anything exept for large number of troops... that is unless u rapid fire them. But you do have a heavy bolter, so that will take care of infantry. You should look into a plasma gun into the heavy bolter squad. Plasma guns are the best special weapon for all around, and the fact that it can rapid fire makes it even better.

I've got to agree with the last two posts, as far as they go. Take a plasma rifle in every tac squad plus the heavy of choice. As far as that goes I'm either equiping my tac squads with a LC or a ML. The ML is quite good a punching holes in armor or IC's/MC's and the ability to switch to frag for non power armourd squads is quite nice. I'm all about flexability in my tac squads. in as much as that is their forte. I normally use a PR/ML combo in my full tac squads and reserve the LC for my min combat squads. For some reason as yet to be determined I havent used the PR/LC combo.
breath, sight, squeeze.
now double tap just for grins
and Another One bite's the dust.
A bolter round for all that oppose the Emperor.
Because of the high point cost of lascannons in every place except tactical squads, I always recommend you take them. They have a longer range then plasma cannons (witch means more shots for you to take) and a savy player can space his models properlly so that at most you can get 1 hit and a partial. So basically your choosing between an extra 0.5 hits, or the extra 12" range and +2 strength. I think thi sone is a no brainer.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
