Usually my 90+ Imperial Guardsmen sit back and shoot the living daylights out of almost all enemy armies. However my next mission will have to do with something that all my guardsmen hate to do, MOVE. Yes for many armies moving is part of the game but for the guard I don't see that many options open for me. The match will be 1200pt aganist a Chaos Marine player I never met with the Take and Hold mission objectives. I was thinking about using a hard defense, 9 squads a Leman Russ and Chimera, with a blistering counter attack, Chimera and Leman smoke launchers to qucikly take the postion. If you guys have an experince or tactics that would help me defeat this evil marine player and grab a win in one of the guards hardest objectives please tell me.
I typically move my infantry forward until they're in rifle range. sacrificing heavy weapon pot shots so that you can fire with all the squad's weapons usually results in equal enemy casualties and an overall better field position.
you'll likely need more movement than that, but that'll get you started.
One of the things that you can use with an infantry force is Infiltration to get to your objective, but in take and hold, you will have to have a lot of men in a tight area. The other thing to consider is taking Drop Troops and Deep Striking in some squads. Stormtroopers are good for this as well.
Usually the impulse is to get in, as fast as you can in Take and Hold. I like to sit back until turn 3 at the earliest, before I move in. I usually let the opponent get in first, and usually that lets me pound away at them while they move in.
More Chimeras the better in a Take and Hold.

Yes, Chimeras with smoke launchers and maybe extra armor. Depending on the terrain, you could use Russes to blast away at the marines, and maybe a Demolisher to take care of any termies. Then rush your Chimeras. Infiltrating Hardened Veterans could work well.
I would try two Armored Fist Squads, drive the Chimera's up to the hold points and then unload parking the Chimera's in a V formation at the objective with the troops inside the V with as many assault weapons as you can buy. Force the Chaos player to either run around the vehicle or fight his way through it in HTH. Try to put support squads in positions that could fire on either side of the V.
ah yes, moving don't we all hate it.
there's really only so much you can do.
1. walk there (not smart imo, but sometimes it's all you can do).
2. ride there (but unless you're mechanzied, you'll only have a couple chimeras)
3. infiltrate there (expensive, but you can spend your time shooting instead of walking!)
4. deepstrike there (free but risky)
Personally i use a combination of all of them.
i have some units that deepstrike (stormies), i have units that infiltrate (vets, support, 1 platoon), i have a couple chimeras and sentinels and when in doubt i'll send in the footsloggers.
but the trick is always having a large firebase that can lay down alot of firepower!! if you move too much of your army you'll sacrifice too much of your firepower and when you get close you'll die
the trick is moving just enough to get the objective.
I would say using Stormtroopers Deepstriking with two Plasma Guns or Grenade Launchers since they'll need some firepower.
Stormtroopers will hold the Objective (Maybe even two squads) until foot troops and/or Chimeras reinforce the position.
...And they shall fear the lasgun
I've been saying this a lot lately, but I'd say infiltrate a Vet Squad w/ a heavy weapon and 3 special weapons (for CSM, I'd prolly go w/ GL's and melta's for SW....I don't trust plasma). Maybe even give your Vet Sgt some good CC gear like a powerfist to give him some holding ability in CC....the hidden Powerfist is clutch .
Basically all you'd do is infiltrate, take the objective, and sit there shooting him as he came to take it from you. And hopefully you'd have a AF squad or some Stormies in a chimera zippin around to give you more men and support on the objective. My 2 cents.
