I'm curious what kind of set ups people use for their Inquisitor. I'm caught between making a CC reutine or a ranged force.
The most important thing to do when deciding on a unit like this is to ask yourself a simple question: "What does my army list currently lack, and how can I make up for it?"
Look over the rest of your army list, or just take a look at the units that you are certain you will be including and see what they add to your army. From that point you can decide whether you want your retinue to be ranged or assualt oriented.
If you want a ranged Inquisitorial unit, then I would go with three Warriors to start off with. Upgrade them to Gun Servitors and give them two Heavy Bolters and a Plasma Cannon. Then give the Inquisitor Lord a Psycannon (This will have to be converted, since I've never seen one that came with this gear as standard).
I would also take a Sage to upgrade your IL with better BS, a couple of Mystics so that they can shoot at those Deep Strikers that will attempt to threaten you, and a Couple of Acolytes to absorb damage that would normally be allocated to the IL.
This squad will devestatingly good at shooting and taking out enemy units whether they are Nids or Space Marines. However the downside is that this squad is going to be quite expensive for what it provides you.
For an Assault oriented Inquisitor Lord and Retinue I would not take a Daemonhunter Lord. Instead I would take a Witch Hunter retinue just for the basic fact that you can purchase a Warrior upgrade called a Crusader. The Crusader comes with a Power Weapon and a Shield that confers a 4+ Invulnerable save. My only wish is that you could take more than three of these guys.
Then I would take two Chirurgeons so that you can ignore wounds, even wounds that cause Instant Death normally. Then I would fill out his retinue with a mix of Acolytes (Arm them with Mancatcher's) and Familiars so that his Initiative is higher and for the ability to pass off wounds to a Henchman.
The Inquisitor Lord himself, should definitely be armed with a Force Weapon and a Rosarius so that he can kill anything that he can wound with one stroke and for the Invulnerable save.
NOTE: These set ups are built with an Inquisitor LORD in mind and may not be applicable to a non-Lord version, since his retinue is decidedly smaller.
Err...chiurgeons are only allowed to a witch-hunter inquisitor.
Anyway, IMO the best way to tool an inquisitor is as a firebase: Equip him with a Psycannon, and make his Retinue 3 Warriors with Heavy Bolter, 1 Sage, and a Mystic. 12 BS 4 and 3 BS 5 shots is nothing to sneeze at for an HQ.

Hmm personally I prefer the shooty type inquis (I <3 metalstorm) but maybe I'm just weird.
This is the DH forum. :p
Check out the DH Tactica by mEGALOMANIAC that is stickied. It gives some good suggestions for Inquisitor load outs.
Yes, for a CC inquisitor you really are better off with a WH =I=.
