Hey i used to play Necrons but i got bored of their extremly few amount of choices and lack of fluff. So i decided i want to go IG. Im thinking about going jungle fighters and the normal soldiers. I also want my normal soldier to concentrate on heavy weapons and my jungle on ambuses and traps. For my ally pick i wanna have grey knights for melee. What do you guys think i should start out with?
Well you're going to have a lil problem.
"ambushes" and "traps" .. usually means Catachan rules. the Jungle Fighter doctrines doesn't really allow this.
However, if you make a Catachan army you can't mix it with normal IG.
This isn't a large problem. you can still use catachan as a firebase and have units setting traps/ambushes... but catachan don't excel at firebases simply they're cost/effectivness ratio isn't as good as normal IG (they cost more and at being a firebase they're not much more effective than normal IG). that and catachans can't take Lascannons... which hurts.
of course you could just make a normal IG list and have an infiltrating element to this army (i do it often ). and then you can have a great firebase and a sneaky platoon or two.
and the GKs are ok either way.
You sound a lot like I did when I first started! Trying to go in a million directions at once, right from the get go.
My advice would be to build up a normal Imperial Guard army, say to 1000 points, and then start branching out.
If you plan ahead, you can get amazing flexibility out of your IG models. For example, you can use Cadian models with Catachan codex rules, you can have Demon Hunters, Witch Hunters, Kroot Mercs, or a million variations of regular Guard (Mechanized, Armored Co.)
Build 1000 points, and then work on one add on at a time. Believe me when I say it will take you quite some time to glue and paint 1000 points worth of Guard models.

Well i was wondering if those catachans could be used as normal soldiers 2. Like when im on a BF with no trees
A new player! yay
Don't worry about being new too much, one day we'll have you on the boards debating the finer points of Commissar executions, but for now lets just start small.
First, I would pick up their codex (not the catachan codex yet) and read it through a couple of times. Even after doing that you will have a few questions, because it is an army that has a ton of options and each option adds more questions.
I would take the suggestion above and start off small with a 1000 point army list. If you want to use the Catachan models, then that's perfectly okay. No sane person will give you grief over using Catachan models while playing with the "normal" guard rules.
Hourglass knows his stuff.
Models are just models, what you use them as, is up to you. If course you will want to use models that make sense (correct weapons and equipment) but in game terms, you could have WH Fantasy Skeletons holding the lasguns and play a zombie regiment as long as you adhere to the IG rules and your arms/equipment is "WYSIWYG"
