Hey guys, I'm new to the forums, but hello! I am playing in a tournament tommoroow, a 500 point one. Its my first tournament ever and I am pretty new to Warhammer, but tell me, what tips would you give me?
I don't have an army list yet, I just can't decide what to use! Maybe you could give me sample army lists, or adice on what to use?
I had a test game with my friend and I used Conscripts, but they failed miserably. Any sample army lists or ideas for me to use tommorrow like tactics etc, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
I would say to use Heavy Bolters and 1 platoon of infantry (Command Section + 2 Squads) and an Armored Fist squad. Heavy Bolters will be excellent because of their cheap cost and great fire power, but you may need to use maybe 1 or 2 Autocannons just incase there are transports on the field.
...And they shall fear the lasgun
If you can, I'd recommend trying to squeeze in a low-end Leman Russ.
Burn the land and boil the sea. You can't take the sky from me.
Member of the Canadian Clan, eh.
Mech Tau Cadre: 2000 points, needs paint and magnets.
Paladins of Avalon (SW):-1500 points, needs paint.
The thing is, I don't have any heavy bolters . I don't know why! I have a chimera, Russ, 4 lascannons, 1 missile launcher, 1 autocannon, 1 mortar and a selection of Special Weapons.
A Leman Russ is a bit cheesy in 500p games...
I've played a lot of small points games with IG, for me numbers have worked really well, lots of men with lasguns, a plasma gun or two, a couple of autocannons and you're set. I also highly recommend taking your chimera, in Combat Patrol games its one of the toughest vehicles allowed and it packs quite a punch, especially if you add a Heavy Stubber.
Here's a sample list:
Junior officer 50
Junior officer (56) 236
2x grenade launcher
10 guardsmen, autocannon, plasma gun (85)
10 guardsmen, lascannon, plasmagun (95)
10 guardsmen, flamer, missile launcher (81) 178
Chimera, multilaser, heavy bolter, heavy stubber (97)
Its built on what you said you have. You can always put in more special weapons or upgrade them and you upgrade the heavy weapons to lascannons to fill out the last 36 points, you might wanna get smoke launchers for your chimera as well.
The list has 40 infantry models and a chimera, its a lotta men and a good tank, a similar list has served me well.
*I cant spell!*
Since theres no other list to criticize here, im goin' after yours Gorbass.
Move the autocannon the armored fist squad and exchange the flamer for a grenade launcher or plasma gun. Give your first squad a missle launcher instead of an autocannon. Ditch the chimeras heavy stubber and replace it with a storm bolter (your using it as 'insurance', right?) give your HQ something else, like 4 grenade launchers or something like that. Then give your junior officers bolters, and blow the rest of the points on fancy upgrades for them (carapcae armor, bionics, the whole shidaddle)
I never upgrade my Command sections, its drains points that should be used for more men or big guns. And the heavy stubber on the chimera is not for insurance, its to add 3 strenght 4 shots that can be fired on the move.
About the autocannon, its there because its on the list of things IbramGaunt said he has, and there's only one missile launcher on the list.
Like I said, move the autocannon to the 'fist and move the missle launcher to one of the line squads. I never said anything 'bout getting more heavy weapons....
As for the stubber, I've never really liked heavy stubbers, after having a traitor armed with one eaten by nids about a dozen times, and not killing anything at all... but thats just me. Go ahead and take it if you want to.
Belive me, JO with Carapace armor, bionics, and a Bolter is a very good thing, not a points sink. I noticed the list had about 40-something points left, and theres no units you can get for 40-something points, so I suggested taking fancy equipment. Whats wrong with that?
No, it's a point sink.Originally Posted by SlickWilley
In low point games, you gotta be VERY tight with the points.
If you want an upgrade for your officer at 500pts, get Iron Disp.
PS. Is this tourny going to be using Patrol Rules (aka 40k40min, Flash 40k)???
BoxAnt poses a valid point, most low point tournies use different rules than a straight traditional army list. "Patrol Rules" are the most popular, and will affect your list greatly (especially since it limits armor values).
Please reply with some more info on the tournament and we'll help as best we can.
