Im new to daemon hunters! I used to play eldar and wanted a powerful, but smaller army. I have looked into Daemon hunters and there Grey Knights and want to try them. I'm trying to go against and Imperial Gaurd army and need some help. I was wondering if an Inquisitor Lord Torquemada Cotez model could be use as a regular Inquisitor Lord? Also I was wondering about using more Stormtroopers as my Troop choices instead of Grey Knights. Should I use there terminators? Also is the Terminator HQ choice better than the Inquisitor HQ option?
No puritan daemonhunters army is complete without grey knights! But the choice of ISTs is a good one for troops choices. Use your grey knights as a deepstriking fast attack option and you will destroy all of the IGs troops no problem. You will even kill multi wound characters with the double strength rule. Against all troops and Kasrkin stormtroopers and anything with T3 WS 4 or less, you have a 3+ to hit 2+ to wound, and even then they will probably fail most of their armor saves anyway. advice however, if your IG opponent is uses alot of heavy support, as maost Ig players do, do NOT take Gk as troops choices, a battle cannon has the potential to take out almost all of your squad. Taking a Land raider or any vehicle for that matter, i dont advise against IG. they will likely destroy even an AV 14 vehicle first turn.Originally Posted by DS_Salyer
As for terminators, they are definitely worth taking, but only as a retinue to a grey knights hero.
For your HQ choice. An inquisitor lord is almost never a better choice than a grey knights grandmaster or brother captain. especially against imperial guard. Deepstrike a greyknights hero with 4-5 terminators along with a couple squads of ten GK, and watch the guardsmen die!
Welcome!Im new to daemon hunters!Just a quick note: if the IG player is tank-heavy, you will probably have a difficult time winning, as the Daemonhunters have very little long-ranged anti-armor.I'm trying to go against and Imperial Gaurd army and need some help.Sure thing. I'd actually suggest converting it just a bit (arm swaps and such), but you could use it stock-standard without any issues. Just make sure your opponents know that it isn't Coteaz.I was wondering if an Inquisitor Lord Torquemada Cotez model could be use as a regular Inquisitor Lord? That's fine as well. IST are cheap, and fairly effective when used in large amounts. I'd suggest putting 2x special weapons into each unit (always the same type, by the way - mixing different special weapons inside one unit reduces their effectiveness) and giving each squad a transport (Rhino or Chimera, your call). Also I was wondering about using more Stormtroopers as my Troop choices instead of Grey Knights. That's your decision completely. GK Terminators are extremely hard hitting, but are VERY expensive (both points-wise and $-wise). You can get almost FIVE IST for the cost of ONE GKT, so by no means are they necessary! I would suggest NOT using any of them (aside from a single GK Hero as an HQ, if you want that) until your list is above 1500 points.Should I use there terminators?Depends what you want to use it for. A shooty Inquisitor Lord is a fairly good unit, while an assault Inquisitor Lord is *always* a waste of points. If you want something cheap, just take a GK Brother-Captain, without any bodyguard, as the HQ. That's the best bet for games under 1000pts, since a Lord *requires* a retinue. Also is the Terminator HQ choice better than the Inquisitor HQ option?
A good shooty Lord (the only kind worth taking) is: Lord with psycannon & auspex, 2 Heavy Bolter servitors, 1 Plasma Cannon servitor, 2 Sages, & 1 Mystic. This unit'll work like a SM Devestator squad (although it's significantly more fragile) with a few tricks of it's own.
